Default email to DirecTV customer service

I am puzzled by the exclusion of HD programming in the standard NFL package this year. Last year with the standard subscription I was able to enjoy the games in HD. I already have the HD package which should enable me to watch any HD programming on any network that I am suscribed to (ie HBO in HD as an HBO suscriber). This appears to me like another way for you to increase prices. If one is not interested in the NFL sportsmix or shortcuts one should still have the HD option on the standard ticket. I have been getting this package for 10 years or so and this is the first time that I feel that as consumers we are being taken advantage of. With HD becoming the standard rather than a luxury why would you go from providing it as part of the NFL ticket to charging for it, this seems anti-progressive.

DirecTV told me today that in order to get the 100 games in HD in 2005 they will broadcast, you now must have a "SuperFan subscription" This is in addition to the regular subscription and is a one time charge of $99.50. The SuperFan package also includes game plays from games in action, ability to watch 8 games at once, on a single screen, and commercial free games with every play in 30 minutes or less, after Sunday games are over.

This really separates the serious from the casual NFL fans, I suppose. Im addicted, so Ill probably get a second mortgage and subscribe. More profits for DirecTV........

Sounds like a joke to me.

I'll be having Sunday Ticket and nothing else, please.

If they want extra money for anything, they should do a behind-the-scenes bit for each team in Training Camp. Like "Hard Knocks". I'd pay for that.

You're kidding me, where did you hear this? I already have both the HD package and the NFL Sunday Ticket package, are you telling me that I will also need the NFL Sunday Ticket HD package ??

Richmond, you make a very good point. I believe DirecTV is owned by Rupert Murdoch (FOX), and the "all the market can bear" idea prevails. Methinks we're screwed for now.

You guys that say it's to much need to break it down. W/out the HD package I'm paying $12.88 per Sunday to watch the Cowboys. Less then I spend on two tickets to a movie and popcorn. With the HD package it's about $19.37 per Sunday. Just about what a trip to the movies would cost for a couple if not a little less.

The way I see it spending 20 bucks a week on entertainment is well worth it. Two trips to the corner store for a slice of pizza, a soda and a lottery ticket is not hard to give up to watch my Cowboys.

I'll tell you what. I think it would be a good idea to start talking on other NFL teams message boards. We could organize a day where everybody and their mother calls into Direct TV customer service to complain about this ridiculous NFL Sunday ticket HD policy. This needs to stop!

I mean the owners have their exclusive club, the players have their association, and the fans should get together and say "This is it! We're not going to sit back and let Direct TV rob us blind just to watch HDTV." I mean, I've spent $5000 on an HD TV and accessories, $775 on replacement parts, $60+ every month on the programming package with HD, $1000 for the Direct TV HD DVR, $219 this year on NFL Sunday Ticket, and they know, I mean THEY KNOW I'm not going to stop short, having spent all that money, for a $100 additional fee. I truly can't. It would make the previous $7000 worthless to me.

That's the worst of it. Those guys are ridiculous!!! Like someone already said, HD is going to be the STANDARD!

That's not the point.............the point is, that HD customers have already paid for having an HD dish.......they haven't had to pay in the past. Why should they now?

And yes, $20 isn't a whole lot........but, for people with families (ie kids) it really adds up. The $6/$7 dollar a week could be spent on items for your kids. I struggled with the choice to add the Ticket. I work overtime to do it.

DirectTV is a multi-billion dollar industry. It stinks that they constantly try to squeeze as much out of us as possible.

This thread sounds like the people who buy a Porsche and put premium gasoline in it, then complain about paying 20 cents per gallon more than if they bought regular gasoline.

Sorry, guys.

Just sounds like a crock to me to make you pay another $99 after you have invested in the TV, receiver, Sunday ticket, and then have to shell out $99 more. Just becasue they bid such a high amount to the NFL to win the contract doesn't mean they should pass the buck on to the consumer. No one told them to blow the bids out of the water in the first place. If Irecall correctly, they outbid cable by alot when they didn't need to.

I don't have the regular HD programming which you pay $11 for, but it seesm that if you pay for that you should get all HD programming in that fee. Don't know if I am going to pay the HD fee of $99. maybe we shoudl all try complaining and threaten to cancel unless they change it?

Agreed. I'm satisfied with just going to the bar if the Cowboys arent playing primetime. Some wings, drinks and hot chicks works for me. If I had the money to spend on an HD TV, DirectTV and all the other crap necessary I would with no questions. I mean I would understand if they just added stuff to your bill or dropped your service but still pay the money and enjoy your $8K dollar home theatre.
