Hard to believe that the first year I had DTV was the first year of the Sunday Ticket. I paid $99 for the entire season. Oh the good old days. Oh well, just a gazillion dollars later, but I've watched a TON of football.

So am I understanding correctly that you now have to pay an extra hundred to get the HD games. Last year they had 3 or so free each week. HD is so good for football that it's hard to watch a regular telecast after being spoiled, but they are really getting greedy now.

Yes. You have to pay $99 for the extra HD games, but if you can receive your locals in HD then you can still see those channels in HD without paying $99 to Directv.

Speaking of HD for DirecTV...
In order to upgrade to HD, apparantly you have to get a new dish installed and a new box with a total cost around $350?! That just seems unreasonable for me. Have others done this upgrade or are there other options? Meanwhile, I'm waiting till that price drops significantly.

You might want to call customer service and tell them you're dropping DTV for Dish Network or Digital Cable. Say they'll install the dish for free and give you new DVR boxes.

To get the HD receiver and the OTA antenna w/the HD upgrade was $399 at the time I got it. W/o the antenna, I'm not sure how much it would've cost. Something like $349 maybe. The professional installation is what I considered free of additional charge. He moved my old receiver to one of my other rooms. I didn't mind the new dish as the one I had was poorly installed. (Had a friend do it for me when they were charging for installation.)

I get all the local channels in HD, plus the other 4 HD channels that others have mentioned. The only HD channel that's any good is ESPNHD. The other HD channels seem to cut the shows off early or they show extremely old shows. The programming still needs some work, IMO.
Thank you to all donated to the Jason Witten Camp drive!

Just curious, what was the 1st year of Sunday Ticket ???

Does anyone know.

I've been a subscriber since the 1997 season. I think the price was $159 then, but $119 if you renewed early...

As we chatted in PM, I think the first year was 93. I could be off, but if I am, it is just a year either way.

First year it was $99,
2nd year it was $99 to reup and $129 as a new subscriber to the Ticket.
3rd year it was $109 to reup and $139 as a new subscriber.

Basically it goes up about $10 a year on average. But over the last few years it seems to be a bit more.

I'm not doing the HDirecTV thing. In standard mode I can run two games at once on my TV allowing me to view nearly every single play. I wanted to go the HD-Tivo route at one point, but it was too expensive and then DTV dumped Tivo and announced a new format that won't work on the HD-Tivos. I know the Tivo units will last at least another year, but I just can't make myself buy something that is already announced as an end of life product.

And I've been a Tivo fan since Tivo started. I bought my 14 hour Tivo in the first month or so it was out. Damn thing cost me an arm and a leg. But then again, my DTV system cost me over $700 without installation when I bought it. The costs of being an early adopter I guess.

DirecTV launched a new HD satellite in April and will launch another in June to broadcast local channels in HD. That means no OTA antenna will be required in most markets this Fall-- the downside is Lord only knows how much extra they will charge for it!

Case in point... this $99 price jack for "SuperFan" is a major disappointment and a bloody joke! I'm now paying over $300 for something I got for around $200 last year! The $10.99 monthly HD charge used to cover everything last year!

Until at least 90% of channels are presented in HD, I will not waste the money on HD programing.

I have an HD television and Sunday Ticket and all that jazz, but I refuse to pay extra cash for HD programing until it is a majority.

By the time HD is the norm. It will be 5x cheaper and 10x better. Proven by DVD Players/Recorders, Sirius Radio/XM, VCRs, and anything else you can think of.
