Um, then why did OG Larry Allen get signed for tackle money?

Because he's been the best guard in the NFL over the last ten years. You over pay for future HOF players. You don't over pay for above average corners and hope to convert them to safeties.

When you look at the scheme of ANY defense, the free safety is the centerpiece. He's the guy who has the chance to play centerfield, and make a ton of plays.
[View Full Quote]Earlier in one of this year's mini-camps, Spagnola mentioned in DC.com that Henry looked a little stiff as a corner, and that Hunter actually looked more like a natural CB. He's absolutely correct. Living in NE Ohio, I have the opportunity to watch the Browns almost weekly during the season, & have followed Henry's career since his rookie year, when he intercepted nine passes. (I have included the video.) As you can see by the video, he is a natural playmaker, with great hands.
A.H. is about the same size as Lance Schulters, with a better health record, so why bring him in? With Henry at FS, we could start Hunter or Glenn opposite Newman, with the odd man coming in to cover the slot in the nickle. It would cover the only position that is currently left open, and would give younger players like K.Davis the chance to play special teams while working at becoming a better FS.
With Henry & Williams manning the safety positions, & Newman and Glenn covering the corners, we would have one of the best secondaries in the league. Of course, this all depends on if Henry is willing, & able to play the position, which I have no doubt, with his natural athletism, he does.
Here is the clip:

I think switching Henry to Safety is a bad move. The guy has played corner his entire career in the NFL and is probably still doesn't know all the nuances of the position.
I just would not give a guy a $10 Million signing bonus, have him counting $3.7 Million towards my cap in 2005 and move him to Free Safety. If I was a betting man, I would even bet that that idea was probably not even discussed when Parcells and Co. were wooing him.
Pete Hunter struggled in the Nickel Corner role (although he had a broken hand) and he struggled at Corner, so I dont think I wont him on the field unless due to injury or maybe seeing him play Safety.
Let's stop the projects and conversions. Let's give Scott, Davis and Justin B. a shot and let them learn with guys like Newman, Williams, Glenn and Henry.
If that doesn't work out, we get one in the draft.

Not sure how much I buy that premise. A d-lineman can make a fs look good but a fs can't make a d-lineman look good.
This is a team who is battling several major injuries to
key players including Pro Bowl talents like Lee, Austin, Jenkins, Murray,
Carter and Ratliff. Other key starters missing include Costa, Smith, Church and
Coleman. That is 11 key players - that's half the starting lineup. Yet we still went 8-8.
