--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I just happened to come across this site and wanted to say something about Roy Williams.
I live in Honolulu, HI and was able to attend the 2005 Pro Bowl this year for the first time. I was so stoked because I was going to see my fave, Mike Vick, play in person!! But little did I realize that I was going to see what an awesome person Roy Williams is to his fans.
Every year at the Pro Bowl there are free practices at the Aloha Stadium where you can watch the teams practice. After these practices some of the players come over to the sidelines and sign autographs for the fans. Well, after every practice there was a familiar face taking time to sign as many autographs as he could - that face belonged to Roy Williams. Many players didn't take the time to come over to sign anything or even wave at their fans (even my beloved Mike Vick - lol).
Well, I went to the Pro Bowl on the Sunday and sat 6 rows freom the field on the NFC side at the 20 yard line. It was awesome to see all these players together on 1 field. Vick, Williams, McNabb, Manning, Bettis, Owens (even though he didnt play, he was there).
To make a long story a lil' shorter, after the game was over, the different players ran to the locker rooms to shower up. A few players stuck around to sign autographs. And once again - Roy Williams was there. Slowly walking down the line of anxious markers and papers and tshirts and balls. When he got to me, he signed a paper for me and took a pic with me (very handsome man I must add!!!-lol)
Anyways - 2 guys next to me had on Roy's jersey. Roy looked at them, and began taking his shoes off. He signed each of them and gave them to these 2 guys who were wearing his jersey and said to them, "Dallas does for Dallas."
(That's what I get for wearing Vick's jersey to the game-lol)
After he took his shoes off and gave them to these 2 SUPER EXCITED gentlemen, he continued to walk around the field in his SOCKS for another 25 minutes and signed autographs!!!!
This man is a man who truly cares and respects his fans. This man didn't have to do the things he did, but I have alot of respect for him after seeing him on February 13th.
I saw and met many of the NFL players that week - from Jerome Bettis to Payton Manning to Alge Crumpler to Sean Alexander to Terrell Owens to David Akers, to Jeremiah Trotter and by far Mr. Roy Williams had to be the nicest and realest guys I met.
Like my name on here suggests, I am a HUGE Falcons fan, but this experience has led me to take a look at the Dallas Cowboys and Roy WIlliams.
Just thought I would share,

Roy always seemed like a guy who is grounded and kind of laid back type of person off the field. Somehow on field he turns to a monster, to our delight.
Nice to see that what I percieve him to be is true.

Roy Williams is indeed a Man's Man. Great read. I wonder if he'll sign my mini-helmet if I took it to a game or something.

You could tell from day one that Roy was special. Some people just carry something that others wish they had and Roy carries it. That's why he's my favorite player right now. This doesn't mean he's a god or something, but he's likable and on the field, he is dangerous. Wouldn't we all like to be that way. Just as nice as anything in the real world, yet we have this sport that we can go become a head hunter and let all of our anger out.... Go Cowboys

I like Roy too.
He has a big kid's sweetness that is just a little shy of Jason Ferguson goofiness...a perpetual smile and good will demeanor...I felt bad seeing him compelled to deny he is a "dirty player"...the tone of voice he used was absolutely wounded. You are right - he is immensely likeable. When he does that Cowboys Cam segment on Total Access, you find yourself smiling in spite of yourself. Just so many positive vibes from that one.
I was ticked last season at that "rumour" it was Roy left that meanspirited and illiterate anonymous letter blasting JJT. Nothing in this kid's style indicates such cowardice.
That appealing personality is why it's so wierd reconciling the persona off field with the crusher instincts on field. When you see him explode into a player, then think of the open smile and accessibility..it's what is known as "cognitve dissonance". The mind has to struggle to connect the two.
When I think of all the great 'hitters", from Lott to Woodson, all had a more serious demeanor off field.
Roy is an original.
Bless his heart.

Way to show what JJ and BP have been looking to have on our team, Class. Funny how different our Division is on perspective, Roy Williams, our best player exemplifies Class.Yet T.O, Philly's best player, is the 180 on class.

Since Emmitt has retired Roy has taken over as my favorite NFL player. The way he plays the game is reminiscent of some of the all time greats (Ronnie Lott & Steve Atwater come instantly to mind).
The fact that he is one of the classiest players playing and not the type to give lip service to his fans makes him all the more special IMO.

While Roy is out there doing these kinds of things, you have Sean Taylor of the Redskins skipping minicamp, crying about his contect, getting DUI's, and out shooting up residential houses in response to the theft of an ATV.
Nuff said.

The last year that the Cowboys had training camp in San Antonio my husband and I went for my birthday. It was so awesome!!! We bought a Roy Williams ball, and when we ran into him in the lobby we asked him to sign it. He was so cool. He said "hey this is nice, I haven't even seen these yet." Then he looked all over the ball for the best place to sign it. I must say he was the coolest player we talked to (and we talked to many).
