What if Bledsoe hadn't been cut?
Would we have seriously brought Vinny back? Keep in mind, he's not on anybody's roster right now. Good enough for Bill, but not the rest of the league.

We would never have dumped Vinny in the first place if Drew wasn't available.

He only had a 1yr contract so he wasn't "dumped." It's disconcerting to think that he could be starting for the Dallas Cowboys but no one else.

Considering the Cowboys had written up an extension in January and were ready to give it to him until they heard the news about Bledsoe, I'd say Vinny was dumped. Parcells had no reason to get rid of Vinny without Bledsoe in the mix, did he? He wasn't interested in Warner and other than him, there was nobody else...
I think we should probably count our blessings that we even have Bledsoe

Those sneaky Bills know what they are doing. They release Bledsoe with full knowledge that we would get him. They've single-handedly crippled our team this season.

You are assuming that he won't be brought back sometime this year.

Good question. Scary question, but still a good question.

One of the major strikes against Vinnie finding a job today is that at age 41, 42 or whatever he is everyone knows there is no future with him. He probably is better than SOME QB's currently on NFL rosters but the thinking is that they will get better with time & experience while Vinnie will decline because of his age.
That, to me, is the major leg up that Bledsoe has on VT. Bledsoe COULD be a 2-3 yr bridge depending on when we find his successor and when they're ready. What are the odds that VT will be a player NEXT year?
Honestly, I would probably be more confident in THIS year's offense if VT were the starter. VT, IMO, was asked to do more in 2004 than Bledsoe will be asked to do in 2005. BP opened up the passing game last year with VT, and admittedly took more gambles. While ultimately the team failed miserably and VT contributed lots of TO's I'm not sure that VT couldn't actually drive the bus better in 2005 than Bledsoe.
I clearly see VT's shortcomings. He really forced some things last year and his history is that he IS prone to poor decisions and resulting mistakes. But that was magnified last year because a) we had no run game til JJ showed up, b) our WR corp was really short-handed once Glenn went down c) our defense couldn't stop anyone which resultingly made us play "let's outscore them" with VT as a key cog. Now Bledsoe arrives and is being asked to not make mistakes because we have Julius and we now have a defense. That's the assumption anyway.
I'm pretty skeptical of Bledsoe and not as down on VT as many. Neither, IMO, are close to what I would prefer we have at QB. But those guys are not easy to find or develop in the case of a youngster.

I don't think it would be Vinny, but it would absolutely be a veteran quarterback. I think even Bill saw that Vinny was at the end of line last year (actually way, way past the end). My guess is you would have saw either Kurt Warner or Jeff Blake.

If Jones was healthy last year we probably would ahve won 8 games instead of 6. I mean VT wasnt great, but he didnt have a bad year either. We were behind too often, and too much weight was on his shoulders. He wasnt supposed to handle all that. I tihnk the lack of running game early in the season wore him out. He just seemed to run out of gas late in games, and especially late in the seasons

brees might have been an option, and vinny might well have returned for one last year and possibly done well enough to get us in the playoffs with this team. or we could have taken a QB, thrown henson, romo and whoever in a blender and last man standing wins the job.
i'm happy bledsoe is here, and i think he's a good enough driver to also get us to the playoffs. but i'm secretly hoping henson has to come in at some point, and wins a couple games for us, and simply stays on the field for the next 7 years... i think he will develop but i also believe we need to cover our bases and if he's still shaky come draft time, we should spend a first rounder on a good one or better yet trade for a promising backup type a la Delhomme who has been in the league for a couple years.
