Curtis Martin and the rushing title
Not sure if posted yet (because it pains me to read anything about Dallas after debacles like last Monday night), but the closest person in the chase for Emmitt's rushing record has had the following two games to start the year:
Curtis Martin
Game 1: 20 carries for 57 yards (long of 11)
Game 2: 31 carries for 72 yards (long of 14)
If I have the info correct, Martin has 13,495 yards including this year. Emmitt retired with 18,355. Martin needs 4861 to break the mark. Keep up the 2005 pace, and it will take 76 more games. If he picks it up and averages 100 yards a game, it will take him 49 more games.
Apologies for any sloppy math. My bet's on Emmitt.

I have C. Mart on my fantasy team.
He needs to start averaging 100 a game.

Pisses me off every time some dimwit brings up Emmitts "great" O line. That line lived on reputation more then outstanding play for over half of Emmitts career. Yeah Clay Shiver sure was an all pro along with Ray Donaldson who was way past his prime once he came to the boys.

It was a beast OLine.
But the key to the rushing title is longevity.
Emmitt got hit just as much as everyone else. Difference is, he was able to continue where others could not.

The Dallas line is vastly overrated, if anything the skill positions made it look better than it was, take into account that Aikman was knocked out of the league because of how many sacks he took. The line was good but it wasn't great, now if you wanna talk good O-lines, how about a Broncos line that constantly allowed mediocre talent to rush for over 1000 yards.

I like the way Jimmy Johnson told it. None of those guys were household names until Emmitt Smith arrived.
Translation...Emmitt made the line what it was, not the other way around.

I watched the 92 championship game against SF and man, that O line was a good line. Gesek, Gogan, and the boys, With DJ and Novecek chipping in, but Emmitt still made a lot of his yards on his own. He took a beating that day and at one point in the 4th, got up slow and Dale Hansen (the announcer for the game) made a comment on that. Emmitt was just a tough SOB and he took your best shot when he had too. That line made sure he didnt have to take it all the time or a lot of em on one play. Give the line some credit, but no more then Riggins and Rogers lines help them. Emmitt made his yards the same way Riggo did. He put his shoulder down and did not back down from anyone, Dl lineman, Backer or Secondary. He had moves but he was not a TD or a JJ in the elusiveness department, he did not take a great hit full on often, but he got more then he wanted.
You can use the O-line theory, but when you go back and watched Jimmys offense, you will see the toughness and the determination in his runs. In the 49ers game his uniform was torn, ripped, hanging out in the back, muddy and wet and you could tell just by looking at him, he was mixing it up.
In the end, you cant question Smiths yards, TDs, heart or manhood. If you cant respect him for what he is, your just hating or ignorant. Bottom line. Need more proof, I offer the Giants game in december 93.
Step aside for the Cowboys from Hell!!!!!

emmitt was the best running back in football till he hurt his neck on mnf against the bears diving for the end zone.
curtis martin may or may not break emmitt's record, but if he somehow did........ it would not hurt my feelings.
curtis martin is one of the handfull of players left that still represents all that is good about this game.

Yeah... imagine that...
Most 30+ year old Cowboy fans here probably know more about his own team history than he does...
