I don't think that is possible. IIRC, at most it would be 1/2 his prorated signing bonus. If he had roster or workout bonuses that he collected this year, the hit would be more in 2004 than in 2005. Maybe there's an obscure rule that changes the situation, but that's how it's always worked in the past.
Washington might have SC trouble down the line (though we've been assured that this notion is a myth), but I don't think it will be because of Trotter's cap hit suddenly increasing in 2005.

5 picks in the first 3 rounds and cap room, 2005 will be an interesting offseason.

there is no way the colts would let harrison go, he'd be tagged and bagged if they couldn't reach an agreement.. no way i see a passing team give up their best receiver

Two thoughts:
First, if a player is released prior to June 1st, the remaining prorated signing bonus accelerates into an immediate cap hit. After June 1st, it splits over two years, with only the current year's prorated portion of the salary cap going against this year's cap. So it is at least possible that Trotter's cap hit would go up next year. However, I expect that the $10 mil figure you saw was including his base salary, which will no longer count.
Second, the Colts will have some difficult decisions to make. Both Edgerrin James and Marvin Harrison are potential free agents, and after signing Peyton to such a huge deal, they may not be able to keep both. I would expect James to be the one departing, however, with Harrison staying put with a new--and EXTREMELY lucrative--contract.

You will see Manning do just what Aikman did every couple of years, he will rework his contract to free up money. Harrison is going nowhere and James will depend on his production and how much money Peyton will give up to keep him.

i thought i read/heard/saw somewhere that the redskins are scheduled to be one of the biggest cap disasters since the 01 ravens in 2006. Whats the deal? i live in dc and have watched them sign overpriced or past their prime free agents who usually just stick around for a year and then leave. this has to catch up with them eventually, right? when is the house that danny built going to come crashing down? if this is the case, that they will be in a lot of trouble in 06, it seems like mr gibbs has a very small and rapidly closing window of potential success.

I only got that first part from the Skins' board, I never read his contract or got it from any other credible site.
I think that you might actually see the same thing that happened in LA (basketball) recently. Marvin Harrison is 32 and James is 26 so they might elect to keep the younger player. I highly doubt that they will rework Manning's contract, simply because you don't see that happening anymore. There has to be a reason. McNabb's contract is worth more money with a smaller signing bonus and we never had to rework his contract (yes I know it has only been two seasons).
