Very Interesting Ryan Young Interview Summary
ChocolateLab, who is a mod at the Ranch, has given me permission to post his summary of an ESPN interview with ex Cowboys RT Ryan Young. (Yes, CL I did love the player in NY and I hope the first point you mentioned - that Young thinks he has a 50-50 chance of making a health-related comeback - proves true). Great stuff! (I merged your 2 posts)

Just FYI -- Ryan Young on ESPN 103.3 now
He's going to be on talking football for the whole show... Listen in at
www.espn1033.com
Surprisingly, he said he's 50/50 to come back for next year (to the NFL, not necessarily to the Cowboys) and only realized a few weeks ago he wouldn't be okay for this year. But he's still rehabbing.
Sounds like a very bright guy.
I don't know if anyone listened to this, but it was pretty good. It sounded like the first time Young had done anything like this, and in between trying to be polite and not offend anyone, he revealed a few things. Let's see if I can remember a few...
-- On whether the players on the team discuss the QB situation when there's not a clear starter: Yes, they mainly focus on their own jobs, but last year near the end of camp players did discuss it. Some favored Hutch, some Carter. At the very end the concensus seemed to be for Quincy because of his command in the huddle and hard work. He really is pretty much the first guy to work and the last to leave.
-- Said Vinny is exactly the same way, though... And he said he really is as strong as Parcells claims. Estimated that with the Jets, Vinny was pound-for-pound the strongest guy on the team. One day Ryan and a linemate were squatting with 465, and there were no racks available when Vinny came in. So he worked in with them, and they asked if he needed any weight taken off. Nope, he said, and did it easily. By the time they finished, Vinny was using more weight than they were.
-- Asked who the vocal leaders on the team were, said Campbell, Richie Anderson, and surprisingly, Flozell. Sometimes Quincy, too.
-- Had really high praise for Flo, saying he was as good as any tackle in the league.
-- Not so high for Larry Allen... Didn't say much, and said he didn't know the situation, but that he "hoped he could come back" this year. Hinted that he missed a few more practices during the year than maybe we realized.
-- Also thought Torrin Tucker could do the job. And hinted that Gurode's problems were all mental, maybe in not knowing the plays well enough. Said Andre was a hard worker, though.
-- Said Wiley can really play, and that he'd be even better going against the slower guys he'd face at RT.
-- Barely said a bad word about anyone at all, but the closest he came was talking about Hambrick... Said a RB has to have vision and a good first cut, and when a RB doesn't have that, it makes the OL's job a lot tougher because they have to block absolutely clean, hold their blocks a lot longer, and "can't take chances". (Not sure what that means.) The host asked if he felt a little sorry for Hambrick not doing better, and he answered, "No. Do you think he feels sorry for me?" The whole tone was one of "good riddance".
-- Asked about that time where he got really blasted on the bench by Parcells and it looked almost like he was getting up to go after Parcells, said he just got up to ask him what he said, and no way would he ever go after Parcells... "I love coach."
-- Said Keyshawn was great, a very good locker-room guy who got on guys and always delivered what he said he'd do. Said unlike what you might think, he's very professional inside.

Thanks for the post. It provides some valuable insight on several key players. Sounds like he confirmed what a stink-pot talent Hambrick was, and maybe Gurode finally "gets it" and can have the year we've been waiting for out of him.

Flozelle was very vocal during TC last season. I posted on here last season that during one practice flozell's wife and I talked the whole practice, she gave me a lot of info on how the team felt about the QB spot the coaches everything. It was another reason how I knew Quincy would win the job last season and how I knew how the players felt about him.
Plus they were not really all that fond of JG, and she said that all the guys were always talking with AB, trying to get him to get his head together.

I never realized Vinny was so strong. Otherwise noting surprising to me. Good read. I wish this kind of stuff came out more often. Thanks for posting!
This is a team who is battling several major injuries to
key players including Pro Bowl talents like Lee, Austin, Jenkins, Murray,
Carter and Ratliff. Other key starters missing include Costa, Smith, Church and
Coleman. That is 11 key players - that's half the starting lineup. Yet we still went 8-8.

Very good interveiw
I agree with much of what he said to. I have heard before that Quincy is the first one there and the last to leave, he is constanly watching game tapes and studying.
I also have "Not so high" praise for Larry Allen and "Hoped he could come back this year" Been saying that one for three years now.....
Very good to see that Flozell has come around and improved so much, I think he made the biggest improvement of any player last year. It was desperatly needed to.
Did not know that about Vinny but I think that Quincy will be the starter no matter what because he is one of the best quarterbacks in the league at scrambling and avoiding sacks. Curly

I asked Charlie Dickey, former OL coach at UA now with University of Washington, what he felt Young meant by that. I am paraphrasing only.
He said OL like to hit the defenders and drive them back a lot more than to have to keep them engaged. When a RB is limited they have to keep the defender locked up more than they like to and that can draw holding flags. If they can hit the defender multiple shots instead of hanging on they can conserve energy for the long haul. The more they engage the more they wear down but they can't take the chances that the RB will be able to break the tackle or gain extra yards so it makes them work all that much harder.
I hope I didn't screw that all up. That was the gist of what I got from it.

that would make sense hostile
Well Hoppefully Julius Jones is the man, I feel pretty confident he'll do well . Hes strong as hell, hes got that great Running back build , like Emmitt's and hes got good speed.
I can kinda see him being a guy like Tiki Barber but hopefully doenst have any fumbling issues

Not fond of Galloway? Somehow that doesn't surprise me.
I read the Bucs forum once in awhile. They claim that Gruden is going bonkers over Galloway...and that Gruden doesn't give praise without it being deserved.
Time will tell...

Ryan Young is just covering his butt. Everyone knows Quincy Carter started because of his mobility and poor O-liner play
