Seattle not invincible

Seahawks barely beat the lowly 49ers. They're not invincible. They have a weak schedule, but I think they're gonna toss in a few L's on the way.

Chicago is the team is watch. Carolina is a paper tiger.

Dallas MUST win the division in order to get into the playoffs. There's no guaranteed wildcard spot for the runner up.

If the playoffs were to start today:

HFA: Seattle (8-2)
Division winners: Dallas, Carolina, Chicago (7-3)
Wildcards: NY Giants, Tampa Bay (7-3)

Maybes: Atlanta (6-4)

Using the tie-breaker for the 2nd bye team, Chicago get's the bye with no losses within their division.

Granted, 6 more games to play, and this scene could change week to week ... but we still need to literally win out to complete this saga.

At most we have 1 more loss and still can win the NFCE, and 2 more losses for a Wild Card spot. A 10-6 record does not guarantee us anything.

Either way, one team will lose which helps us if we win. If we win against denver, i may be rooting for Giants, because cowboys play giants again and we control our destiny there, but we already blew it against seattle and need some help from other teams.

Chicago plays great D but their offense doesn't strike fear in anyone's heart. There's no team in the NFC that scares me. Thursday will tell us how good the 2005 Cowboys really are.

This one is tricky. But I think I have to root for the Seahawks, even though HFA is on the line. We have to take care of the division first.

But ideally, Giants beat the Hawks, and we beat the Giants the next week.

Then again, we still have to get past the Broncos.

I love football ... esp when we're winning.

Only in the bottom two scenarios do you hope New York wins next week. In the first scenario (the one I'm predicting) a New York win does nothing for us unless Seattle tanks and finishes 2-4. Not likely.

Very possible: Dallas goes 4-2 and defeats both New York and Washington. This wins the NFC East and the Boys are in the mix for a first round bye.

Dream: Dallas goes 5-1, losing to either Denver or KC. This would assure the Cowboys of a first round bye and there's an outside shot at HFA if Seattle finishes 3-3 (losing to New York, Philly, and Indianapolis).

Pure Fantasy: Dallas goes 6-0 and Seattle loses at least two more games, thus guaranteeing HFA and a first round bye.

Actually, it does mean something ... we barely beat SD, SF, Philly, Giants, and barely lost to the Raiders, Redskins, and Seahawks.

It means there's parity in the NFL, and the Seahawks DON'T have HFA locked up as it may seem.

Get over the 'this team beat this team and we beat them so were better then them' stuff. Who you lost too has no bearing on how good you are. We lost to Oakland, barely beat San Fran. Whats that say about us. We are a 7-3 team. Bad losses happen.

in the parity NFL, when a good team loses to a really bad team, it does not make the losing team worse the the really bad teams. It shows that on this day, a really bad team had a better day then the better team that lost. Thats about all you can read into it.

Yeah, but when we beat SF, they had Tim Ratay starting (experienced QB) and had hope for the season.

Seattle is 5-0 in their own division of weak teams. If you take those easy wins away their record is 3-2 with the win over the Cowboys. They are an average team that has played a very easy schedule.

That's so true. That loss in Seattle burns me as much as the Washington loss.

But I think the consensus is Seattle will get HFA throughout the playoffs. I say, hold yer horses. Not yet. They're not as good as people make them out to be.

It still means squat. We are all just positioning for a playoff spot. I don't think anyone here thought Seattle was unbeatable and have now changed their minds because they didn't play very well against SF.

The NFC will be represented by one of Dallas/Seattle/Carolina. The rest are pretenders.

There will be a big shakedown in the coming months among the NFC South teams. The NFC South has played a remarkably few games against each other for this late in the season. The NFC South also has to match up against the NFC North this year, meaning they have to face up against the Bears.

Tampa still has to play the Bears, Carolina and Atlanta.
Falcons have to play Carolina (2X), Tampa and Bears
Carolina has to play Falcons (2X) and Tampa.

These teams are going to start canceling each other out.

I think this post is a tad hyperbolic. Dallas could go 3-3 in the final 6 games, and still expect to get into the playoffs rather easily. I would be absolutely shocked if a 10-6 record doesn't get a team into the playoffs. That's virtually unheard of.
