Question for board?
I am a die hard Cowboys fan like most of you all. I am curious about all this Replace Coach Parcells talk. I know it has been beaten to death however I am curious why people think bringing in a coach that has just been fired from another team or a College coach is going to be better then keeping a proven coach such as Parcells.
Parcells has the least penalized team in the NFL. The players RESPECT him and buy into his ideas. Do you think brining in a new coach and changing the entire offense, defense, scheme is going to make this team better? "IF" a change is made this team is going to go backwards BEFORE it can go forward again.
This board goes nuta and is very impatient with a loss. I can just see it when we take 5 steps back with an entirly new program where last years rookies have to learn again.
Players listen to Parcells because he has been there, NO player is going to listen to a Haslett or Turner who was just canned from a team who could not get a thing done. Or a coach who has never been to a Superbowl such as a college coach. or a coach who has never been a head coach.
I for one believe this team is more disciplined then ever. I believe some key positions need to be upgraded, maybe some new coordinators need to be brought in, however a coaching change would hamper any progress that has been made since Coslette, Campo or any one of the other puppets Jerry brought in before.
Blast away!!!!

If Parcells leaves, Payton or Carthon could step in without disruption to the building process.

It is crazy. Certainly when hes under contract for the coming year. I dont understand the fascination of speculating on something that is so ludicrious. If he was not under contract, I could see it. If he had said somewhere along the way, "I am not sure if I have enough to come back next year" or "I dont know if I even wanna come back and fix this." But he said, "I dont want to talk about it now." Thats it. Whats to speculate.
Hey you! - yes you, You going to work today, How bout tomorrow? Next week. When you planning on quitiing.
See how silly that sounds asking someone if they are going back to work, when they already have a job and has shown responsibility enough to report every day in the past.
Just crazy talk by haters that dont have any other outlet for there frustrations. Dont pay all this 'Parcells is leaving' crap any nevermind. When he quits, then its worth discussing.
Step aside for the Cowboys from Hell!!!!!

I hope they go with Zimmer then only because he seems to command more respect and leadership than Payton, judging by the interviews I've read where players are asked their opinions on the assistant coaches. Most of the defensive players who played under Zimmer through Campo and Parcells seem to have his back, even when their careers are over.

I meant Carthon coming back from the Browns. He is one of BPs favorites.

Ok I was making sure it was not a mistake.
I have wondered about Carthon...but I think they were a tad upset at each other and that was the reason Carthon left.

I know Carthon was in line for a HC interview this week, but I can't remember what team it was for. Too many jobs have opened up this week.

That is the way BP rolls. He left the Patriots and the Jets while still under contract. Not too sure about the Giants. He is even older now so who knows what his next move is. If he was staying for sure, he would dispell all the rumors and say no one will coach the Cowboys next year but me. He didn't.

Unfortunately, it looks like Carthon or Mike Singletary are going to be the "token" interview to meet the minority hiring rule for the teams that have already decided on a coach.

There are some on this board who want to get rid of Parcells and both of the offensive and defensive coordinators. I'm not in that camp but I'll try to summarize the arguments:
1. BP has not lived up to his advance billing/reputation. His W-L record does not justify bringing him here as many other coaches could have accomplished similar results with the money we spent on FA's.
2. He is living with a win now philosophy and that hurts the team's long term prospects. This is particulalrly true at the QB and WR positions.
3. The game has 'passed him by' and his game plans are vanilla and epitomize a conservative approach that does take the best advantage of our personnel. This is true on both offense and defense.
4. Many of his personnel decisions are suspect and problems this year on the O-Line and with the kicker are just two glaring examples.
5. His use of retread players is both stubborn and backward looking. Also, the use of older players impacts the Cowboys' ability to finish strong as the injuries mount up over the season.
6. His treatment of the organization and fans by not making a decision/commitment to stay the course is insulting.
7. Parcells is going to leave in the not too distant future and it is better for him to do it immediately so we can get on with the future whoever it might be.
8. He should never have switched the Cowboys to a 3-4 defense. Doomsday was always 4-3 and better fits our personnel.
9. He has not fired Zimmer.
10. He has not fired Payton.
I hope I've not missed anything. Again, while I am not in that camp, the detractors have some valid points. Parcells does not come without some negatives because he is trying to use a formula he believes will bring success. If you do not agree with the formula you are not going to like a lot (or some) of what he does.
Overall, I still think the Cowboys are much improved (even with our record) and I want to see one more year.
