Default Who wore "8" before Aikman?

Can't remember any Cowboy in the 70s or 80s wearing that number. Maybe someone in the 60s did.

Aikman was the first and still the only player to ever wear #8...Starting back in 1960, hardly anyone ever went with single digits.

Just checked the cowboys website and it looks that number 8 was never worn by anyone in their team history.

Most QB's wore teen numbers and 11, 12 & 20 etc....

But I'm talking about any player. It's strange that no kicker or punter wore it.

#12 was worn by John Roach and then Ron Widby before Roger Staubach.

Looks like they didnt drop below #11 until 1974 and that was a huge drop all the way to uniform #1 for Kicker.

Then to #1 in 1974 for Punter.

Then to #9 in 1975 for Punter.

Then to #5 in 1983 for Punter.

Then to #3 in 1984 for Punter.

Then to #4 in 1985 for Punter.

Then to #10 in 1986 for QB.

Then to #8 in 1989 for QB Troy Aikman.

Then to #7 in 1991 for QB Buerlein.

Then to #2 in 1992 for K.

Then to #6 in 2000 for P/K?

I'm glad Aikman took a number no Cowboy player had ever worn before and now no Cowboy player ever will--it will always belong to (future) HOF Troy Aikman.

No. 8 was worn by punter Buzz Sawyer during the strike in 1987.

Nothing touches Sneeze Achieu, who played in the NFL's early days (for Akron maybe?)
