Faine can seek trade
The Browns have given center Jeff Faine's agent permission to seek a trade for the 2003 first-round pick, an NFL source said Monday.
Faine (6-3, 291) became expendable last week when the Browns signed former Saints center/guard LeCharles Bentley as a free agent.

Another first rounder of the Butch Browns bites the dust. Also mentioned is Crocker, their third rounder that year who was recently traded to the Falcons. Any interest in Faine?

He is about the same size as Johnson and probably little if any stronger.
Push. Bentley was the only center out there that would have been a big upgrade.

Not sure, he really didnt show anything last few years in Cleveland. However, he is just 25 years old, really quick, but I sense not great power. I might be interested in him for Dallas if its a 4th round pick, say 4th pick or 3rd in 2007.
But first, I want to see how Al Johnson is doing, reports are, that he is ticked off about his lack of size and strength. Camp reports are saying that he has put on weight, and increased his strength in weight lifting etc. So, we will see. Gurode, is still there too, but we only have him signed for 1 year. Gurode has more size, etc, but his attitude, desire is something to be desired.

Faine actually finished in the top 10 in my statistical analysis of centers this season and in some cases, right around the top 5 centers. A buddy of mine is a Cleveland fan who follows the O-Line really closely and said that outside of Pat Williams, Faine looked good all season long. Considering Williams destroyed every center he faced last year, that's a good thing.
Still, I highly doubt the Cowboys would want Faine since they don't seem to high on taking lightweight centers and already have two centers.
I think Cleveland would be a bit stupid to trade him unless they get at the very worst a second round pick. Bentley told Cleveland news that since he's in Cleveland, he'll play any position they want him to. With Shaffer, Bentley, Andruzzi and Faine, that makes for a real nice group of starting O-Linemen.

Faine's biggest problem is that he plays in Cleveland. I could see a team like the Texans, with Kubiak there, being interested in him.
When asked whether Jason Garrett is the right head coach for this team: "I don't think there is anyone else that could. I think he is an unbelievable coach. We've responded to him and he has made us better football players, better people. If you watch us I think we play with a certain relentless spirit." --Sean Lee

My Lindy's mag has him listed as 6-3 300, I would be interested in a later round pick or maybe a conditional one.

Too bad Fergy previously played for BP - Pat Williams signed with Vikes for about the same price that Fergy did.

Also Kiper had Faine as a blue chip(dominant center), while Al Johnson was his second best center that wasn't dominant. but hard nosed.

Gurode has all the talent in the world; he needs to step it up once and for all. Being a contract year I hope it gives him the motivation to step up and claim the center spot.

Leverage and leg strength is a lot more important than bulk at the center position. Try looking up the best centers in the league. Most will be the same size or smaller than those two.
