If Kosier isn't a good run blocker, why did we even sign him?
I've scoured the internet for any type of info on Kosier.
Apparently he is pretty good at pass blocking like Larry Allen, but he is horrible at run blocking also like Larry Allen...
And that is supported even more by Kevin Jones' lackluster year. One positive stat though that contradicts that perhaps is that Kevin Jones' most impressive yards per carry numbers came from the left side. Averaging 4.7 yards per carry. Far more than any other direction he went (with the exception of the right sideline, where he averaged 5.2 yards per carry on 115 carries)
In the final two months of 2011, Romo’s passer rating was 115.9.

agreed. LA is far superior to Kosier in terms of run blocking.

Ummmm...last year many many times allen got beat on run plays. Im not making it up. Now of course in some of our biggest running plays he made huge blocks....WHEN HE ACTUALLY made contact with someone. Tehe quickness and ability to reach the second level is gone consistently. He cant consistently get it done anymore.
Kosier is younger and should be coming into his own soon. I think BIll and Jeff Ireland saw a player who can advance his career right now.

Straight line blocking he was still good, however he was a shell of his former self when pulling.

You also have to consider the Lions' anemic passing offense, despite their investment in first round draft picks. It's hard to have a dominating running game when defenses are stacking the line against you.

I think the real truth of the matter is that Kosier is an unknown to most if not all i the media. Most of the assessments of his play were written several years previous. Some folks contend he is going to be a pleasant surprise for us, others say he can't play at all. I think he was signed because he can play more than one spot, is smart, above average lineman who can preserve roster spots for other needs. I had never even heard of the guy, but I've learned my lesson from putting too much value on what the media "thinks". I don't think he would have been in the league too long if he was THAT bad and further, I can't see Dallas giving that money for nothing. Trust the scouting dept. and Parcells until we see reason not to with this guy. My .02.

For between the tackles running, maybe. Anything outside that and LA was subpar at best, not to mention delays or screens.
And between the tackles running is not what our RBs do best.

Even up the gut, LA couldn't hit the second tier blocks. Just WAYYYY too slow now and virtually no lateral movement. LA was terrible at pass protection the last year especially....sad to see him look that way.

I don't think this is correct. LA had problems getting to the 2nd level last year run blocking and that is when he was going straight ahead. The necessary quickness seemed to be gone. We had problems to that side even before Flo went down.

Don't cite Jones' poor stats as evidence that Kosier wasn't good at run blocking. Kosier started the 3 games that Jones didn't play meaning that of his 11 starts only 8 were when Jones was in the lineup. Jones' two worst games (Chi and Car) were games where Kosier didn't start. Jones actually picked it up a bit when Kosier started.

As I said in another thread, my problem with signing Kosier is that I had never heard of him until we signed him. And I watch a lot of NFL games, not just the Cowboys. Not sure what we really have here.

I'm just hoping that we had a good reason to come out guns blazing for a guy that no one has heard of, I'm trusting our coaching staff and scouting department on this one.
