What'd you think of the performance? You have man loved Henson for as long as I can remember - and I have to be honest - I really thought he played a much better game than his numbers dictate.

I've liked him since college...

Here's what I think...

I think we don't know what the Cowboys are evaluating...so it might not be about numbers...for example: perhaps they want to see him go through his reads...if his numbers are great but he keeps locking on to one guy, the team wouldn't be happy. I'm not saying this is the case...just an example.

That said...I like his presence...he's aware in the pocket...he knows when to throw the ball away...he manages the game well...and he flashes unique ability, like that one play where he rolled to his left and threw a strike back to his right.

So far, that's good enough for me.

I'm not worried about his numbers...this isn't fantasy football.

Default All hail Theebs!

Theebs,

Thanks for the significant effort you put into organizing these clips. They're very useful.

Some observations:
* I know all about this debate on Henson's windup and release. Seems to me it is pretty quick. I don't see the windup in particular.

*what I do see is that funny side arm release. Looks like he's throwing a baseball. Ok...but have you noticed that on deep passes he has a clear over the shoulder release. Some of his touch passes to running backs would be a lot better with that over the shoulder release. I don't think he gets good touch on the ball with the side armed motion. For plays across the middle it doesn't matter, but for the touch passes it seems essential.

* He avoids sacks well. This is no Hutchinson-statue out there. He's got mobility and pocket presence.

Once again, Theebs for making all this possible.

Great evaluation....

I also think he manages the game well...he'll throw the ball away when there's nothing there.

I liked his performance, can't tell if that interception was his fault or not. Only complaint I have is the time he threw the ball away despite having two receivers wide open for a touchdown.
In the final two months of 2011, Romo’s passer rating was 115.9.

I've analyzed this video and I must say I'm not impressed at all by Henson.....he looked like exactly what he is....a 3rd string QB fighting for a roster spot in the NFL.

Right now, none of us even knows what the Cowboys are evaluating in Henson's performance.

Thanks for the file. I enjoyed getting to watch the game! I was a bit suprised, Hensen didn't look as good as I was expecting. Missed most all of the deeper passes. It sure seemed like he was throwing side arm a lot.

I've seen more in the last two videos from Henson than we've seen from Romo in his 4 years here.

Wow! What a shock, you're knocking Henson again. I'm so glad that the one poster that knows QB talent when he sees it has had a chance to analyze this video. What a relief.

On the nosey.

And that doesn't mean we aren't pulling for Romo...it's just a fact.

I've never really pulled for either of them - I thought they were both a gamble.

The first time I ever saw Henson was in Oxnard during his first TC. He was good, but very raw - he kept underthrowing and looked confused. You could see the talent, but anyone who thought he should be on the field during his first two years was crazy.

Watching these videos - he has come a long way. It looks like with each game he is finding his feet again and shaking off the rust of a few years - and i like what I am seeing. He is comfortable, not afraid to make the tough throw over the middle, but smart enough to know when it isn't there. He is far and away better than he was 2 years ago.

Romo is OK - but I've never been to impressed with him. A lifetime backup, IMO, but not a starter - ever. I still think Henson is full of risk - but the reward exceeds that risk to me.

I hope he sits again this year - because a) Bledsoe goes down, we have trouble and b) one more year would be beneficial - especially if he wins the backup.

But in 2007 - I hope he has finally come around enough to challenge for the starter position.

I'll say this - kudos to the way that the boys and Parcells have nursed him along - I like this way of development.

Very well said.

I still think that none of us can pass judgement on Henson because we don't know what he Cowboys are evaluating.

If they are watching him to see his comfort level, then he's doing a great job.
He fumbled the opening snap, calmly picked it up and completed a pass. He found a secondary receiver on his TD pass. He made a nice run on the play before the TD. He made a great throw while on the run in the third quarter. Intentionally threw the ball away on a few plays. And looks very calm on the field.

All good stuff in my opinion.

The physical skills are undeniable.

He's only started 14 games in his college/pro CAREER. People should lighten up a bit.
RIP Santiago
