Going by usatoday on just the bench press:
Carpenter has a 345 max
510 squat
Lawson has a 385 max
also 340 power clean

I think it comes down to preference.
Do you want a great pass rusher who may not be well-rounded?
Then take Lawson or Wimbley.
Do you want a lesser pass rusher who's shown to be more versatile?
Take Carpenter.
Lawson and Wimbley have bigger upside potential, but they also have a higher bust potential as well.
My preference is for the safer pick in the first round - Carpenter.

.
this article outlines why Pittsburgh was and is so successful running the 3-4 because they feast on drafting "tweeners". A tweener is a good thing when it comes to OLB in 3-4. Lawson and Ware were built for the 3-4.

Lawson and Ware were built for the WOLB spot in the 3-4.

With the asst coaches not having any input, I expect the scouts to really step up with this pick.
This is a team who is battling several major injuries to
key players including Pro Bowl talents like Lee, Austin, Jenkins, Murray,
Carter and Ratliff. Other key starters missing include Costa, Smith, Church and
Coleman. That is 11 key players - that's half the starting lineup. Yet we still went 8-8.

I don't want a SAFE pick. I want someone who defenses will fear. Lawson and Wimbley are people to be feared. Carpentar is not going to be feared. I think he will be OK but not feared by offenses.

That article was later dispelled as incorrect. According to BP, everyone is involved in the process.

Nope your wrong that's a run stopper.
Both Bill Jones and Mickey said this over and over in their analysis. Check it out here:

Both of them pick Carpenter and I agree with them

This is a common misperception. As I stated in this thread it can at times be a significant responsibility but it is not at all the primary responsibility. It is the primary respsonsibility of the LILB.

Bill and Mickey always say that its their opinion, that they do not know what the Cowboys want at that spot. They do say that Lawson and Carpenters names have been rumored. Gosselin who actually has the best information from GMs, coaches, and scouts says that its Lawson if he's there.

Is Gosselin's final mock out?
