I don't mind this pick too much but being compared to someone doesn't mean they are that person. I'm sure Kavika and Shante were compared to good players too.

At first, this pick was a head-scratcher. After reading about him, I'm less disappointed. The guy is 6'6", 280+ lbs, runs the 40 in the 4.8s, and is strong. Those numbers alone are good enough to get you drafted. Now add in the fact that he had 11 sacks and quite a few tackles for a loss and you've got a productive football player with outstanding measurables. He also is considered "raw", yet has produced quite well already on the field. Of course, we all would've been happier if we got him in the 5th and he seemed like a "steal", but there's no denying that he appears to be a very impressive prospect with a great deal of upside. I'm not trying to spin this selection, but compare this to a pick like Shante Carver who was small, slow, didn't appear to have much potential to improve, and we grab him in the first! THAT was a bad pick - a real reach. Most Giants fans were not that excited to get Umenyiora a few years ago, but players with a great deal of upside can develop. If Hatcher lives up to half of his potential he should be a solid pick.

Mike Mayock compared him to Chris Canty.

I realize he has "lots" of upside/potential, but... I just wish we had picked him sometime today, instead of yesterday though
