It was not deemed "wrong" for the site .. all threads are moved out of The Zone forum after a period of time to a more appropriate forum. It is now in the Off-topic Zone.

It is your site (Reality and the mods) and you can of course do as you please. But I must say that I have never understood the obsession with having every topic properly pigeon-holed. I should specify that I am not talking about the storing of old topics once they have run their course. I'm talking about new topics that are not allowed on the main forum.
I do not mean to sound unappreciative of The Zone, I come here as often as I get the chance and it is my favorite place to hang out online. I am merely voicing an opinion that I have held for some time; that there really is a bit too much of an obsessive attitude toward stashing every topic in some particular alternate (and often obscure) forum.
I prefer to come to one location and discuss whatever is on the minds of the posters as long as it is in some way related (sometimes only remotely related) to the Dallas Cowboys. I have only a limited amount of time to spend on the computer each day and I like to come to the main forum, check out what is being discussed and drop an opinion where I have one. I skip the threads that do not interest me and move on to the ones that do. I do not have the time to search through all the many forums and therefore miss out on a lot of discussions that might be of interest if they were more readily available.
Again, I don't mean to complain or to be overly critical. This is just an observation from member who has less time than perhaps some others to spend at the computer searching for interesting topics.
Perhaps I should have brought this up in the Opinion Zone but this thread was here and close enough to the topic so I thought I'd throw it out there since this is the forum I visit.

Most threads are not moved out of The Zone forum until they drop past page three. Using web logs I was able to figure out that most users will never go beyond page 3 while reading threads in the main forum so most threads become abandonded after reaching page 4. The weblogs also showed that users would visit the first page of multiple forums a lot more often than reading page 4, 5, etc. in the main forum.
So, what we decided to do was move threads to their appropriate forums once they reach page 4 in order to give them an extended life that they normally would not receive. The moderators have to do a LOT of extra work every day just to do this but this way, good threads do not get abandonded very quickly.
You have to understand that during training camp especially just like on game days, threads get posted in the main forum at a high rate. In some time periods, it is not unusual for a thread to reach page 4 in as little as 2-3 hours which means threads get double posted or worse, never even read by people who cannot stay on the site all day long. By moving them to relevant forums, they stay on the first page of those forums for days in some cases while continuing to see more views and replies.
Now, there are some threads that will be moved immediately out of the main forum such as off-topic threads which would not be allowed in the main forum even if threads weren't moved to other forums after reaching page 4. That being said, there are also times that we leave off-topic threads if a lot of new threads are not being created at the moment or if we feel the OT thread is important to a majority of the users.
You have to understand that most users coming to this site are only interested in reading about the Cowboys, not reading and posting in a post padding thread like the "Mojo Thread" .. which is why it was moved .. even though we left the Mojo thread in the main Zone forum for OVER A WEEK.

Great explaination Reality. I ran my own forum for about a year. It wasn't very active, but it was still a beating to try to keep up with, so I for one realize and respect the job that you and your terrific group of mods do here.
Bump.
I have signatures turned off.
SIG PIC THANKS TO JUKE!
