We had the CBS direct tv waiver for four or five years for the sole purpose of the Jets preseason games which are broadcast on the NY CBS flagship station. When the NFL channel was introduced last November, promsing all preseason games not nationally televised , I cancelled the waiver, which also included the CBS West station that does the Raiders games. DUH.
Not wanting to wait til the tape delay of the game on Monday, I just called direct tv and asked them to restore my waiver. They did! So I can see the game live tomorrow!! YAY!!

Tell me more, Herms. I live in CA but will be moving to Hawaii in late Sept. I will be able to keep DirectTV and NFL Sunday Ticket so the regular season games will not be a problem. But I would like to be able to get Cowboys pre-season games in real time. Can you explain a little more about the waiver?

LaTunaNostra, are you in the NY area ? I'm in CT. I have cabelvision for most of my programming (can't give up the cabelmodem) but use Direct TV for the NFL ticket for the last 4 years. During the season I get the local chanels (In the 800's I believe) because of the new blackout rule. Can I get a wavier ? I thought I'd ask you, since it seems you've been there...and if your from NY we might be under the same rules of the local market.
Be excellent to each other....

Well, I am kind of ashamed to tell you the lengths I had to go to get mine back in the late nineties, but hey, for football, the ends justify any means.
The direct tv waivers were planned for those whose tv reception was so poor they could not get their local stations even WITH an antenna on their roof, which means you pretty much had to live in a deep gulley a few hundred miles from civilization. Local stations naturally did not want to give these waivers, for advertising purposes, so you had to "prove" you could not get reception. I could not prove this and it was ridiculous to try, so I bugged my state representatives, including Congressman Patrick Kennedy and Senator Lincoln Chafee to intercede on my behalf. My story line was I needed up to date big city news feeds to effectively teach my courses. My local CBS affiliate immediately granted me the waiver. I guess they never heard of CNN or MSN NBC.
I'm not the type to bother important people busily engaged with our national interests, but it was preseason football at stake!!!
Now, I don't know what line you can use in Hawaii to get a Dallas feed, I was asking for the national flagship East and West feeds, nothing fancy. That is what the waivers from the networks cover. It will have to be some "story", I think, to get a "waiver" for local Dallas tv, I suspect. In additon, in almost every locale, dirct tv now comes with the local stations option, so it is probably even more difficult to get the waiver now. There is no longer a "reception" excuse.
You need a good rationale. I would go with this. You're a certifiable mental patient who lapses into manic-violent episodes when deprived of 24/7 news from your hometown. You own several automatic weapons, and as a community service, should be provided with the Dallas feed.

Jarv, I am in New England and have always been "an out or market" fan, so have always been on the look out for ways to see games, even overseas, which means you sit in your wonderful US embassy with a bunch of delightful Marines on Sunday - watching the freaking New York GIANTS . As far as I know, the original waiver rules still apply: they are for those who cannot get their local stations even with an outdoor antenna. It does not hurt to try and request one.
Hopefully, cablevision picks up the nfl channel so you can gets all the preseason games next year. I would call. Every day. They do make decisions based on customer request/demand.

Dang, moving to Hawaii? I am envious. I dream of retiring to Oahu some day ...

My crush on you is at an all time high.
But I still don't know what any team saw Thursday night that would have made them comfortable with waiting a round or two for the offensive lineman they wanted. ---Todd McShay
We just converted half our LB to DL. We have a 30m starting DL, it better be pretty friggin good.
