Default Romo's Season Among Cowboys' All-Time Best

Here's where Romo's 2006 regular season lands him among the best all-time seasons for Dallas QB's. He's the only player who is in the top 5 in all of these categories.

Passer Rating
Staubach 1971 104.81
Aikman 1993 99.02
Romo 2006 95.10
Staubach 1973 94.57
Aikman 1995 93.56

TD's Per Game*
Meredith 1966 1.84
DWhite 1983 1.81
DWhite 1982 1.78
DWhite 1980 1.75
Romo 2006 1.73

Completion Percentage
Aikman 1993 69.1%
Aikman 1991 65.3%
Romo 2006 65.3%
Aikman 1995 64.8%
Aikman 1994 64.5%

Yards Per Attempt**
Staubach 1971 8.92
Morton 1969 8.67
Romo 2006 8.62
Staubach 1973 8.49
DWhite 1982 8.41

Yards Per Game*
Romo 2006 264
DWhite 1983 249
DWhite 1987 238
DWhite 1982 231
Aikman 1991 229

*Romo's yards per game and TD's per game in 2006 is based on 11 games played. Although he actually played in parts of 13 games, counting mop-up vs. the Texans and Titans, his total game time in 2006 was less than 11 full games.

**based on 13 attempts per game, so this stat favors QB's who played in the era of the run. If you base it on 24 attempts per game, Romo is the Cowboys' all-time ypa leader for a season.

Just one more bit of evidence that fantasy football has ruined the football IQ of many football fans in America. This isn't baseball. Stats don't tell the whole story.

Romo has had a very good season for a guy to be playing for the first time. A very good season. But this isn't one of the top 5 QB seasons (stats or not) that the Cowboys have ever seen.

and people think he isnt a starting qb, or franchise qb

makes me sick
"His poise has been surprising. Against Indy, at the two-minute warning, we thought we'd take a knee. But Tony comes in the huddle and says, 'All right guys, we're gonna take a shot. We're going deep.' We're like, 'What? Game's over.' He took a knee, but for a minute he had everyone going." -Jason Witten

Or maybe it could be and people are blindly blaming other faults the team has on Romo.

And, btw, I don't mean the poster's football IQ. He was simply reporting the facts. I just mean that I get weary of a "baseball" approach to evaluating football, especially QB's.

Vince Young's 29 yard TD run today will not go into his QB rating
Tony Romo's 2 lost fumbles today will not go into his QB rating

totally agree...stats arnt everything and dont always tell the whole story

he's off to a nice start but he has a long ways to go before anybody should confuse him with Aikmna, Staubach or even Danny White

I don't think you can blame today on Romo. Turnovers or not, we gave up 39 points. But he deserves his SHARE of the blame.

In fact, I'm not commenting on today at all. I just simply don't believe that we have seen one of the top 5 QB performances in Cowboys history this year. If you do, I'm A-OK with that. I just simply disagree with you.

As a first year starter's performance I'm sure it's the best in Dallas history by a wide margin.

And Vince needs it. His is the lowest rated starting QB in the whole league.

I agree that stats don't tell the whole story. In the 46-year histroy of the team, there may have indeed been some great regular seasons by a QB that are not on this list.

But that fact, and the fact that these were the first 11 games of Romo's career, only adds to the accomplishment, and takes away nothing.

Yes I would. Without question. The only qualifier would be that he is in his 4th year, but Danny White sat and watched Roger for awhile. Romo has shown plenty of promise.
