We're staying with what we have at CB...
...according to BP.
It's going to be a long season, folks.
I think the org was looking to '05 all along.

I guess they're banking on two high #1 picks next year and hoping Henson progresses as the season goes on.
Yep...another "write-off" year....oh goody.

again, we could trade for Champ Bailey today, and if they keep playing the same scheme they are playing it wont make any difference.

I enjoyed last year immensely. Strange to find out it was a "write-off year".

Why bother trying, dbair? Some folks just don't get, don't want to get it, and/or just can't get it.
The problem lies MAINLY in our pass rush, People. We don't get to the QB it won't matter who we line up at CB, he WILL get toasted.

I don't think staying with what we got is an indication that the Boys are throwing the season away. Most of the time, you have to raise and train your own players. I thought the young kids did fairly well yesterday. The problem, as mentioned, was that no one can cover forever. Essentially, that is what we were asking them to do yesterday against one of the best offenses.
I still hope that somehow, someway, we can generate enough of a passrush to help them out. That is the big difference.

I guess if you criticise the team, you don't get it?
I don't take everything BP says as gospel. This team's secondary isn't good enough to win in this league as it stands right now. Bottom line.

You're missing the point. It doesn't matter WHO WE HAVE AT CB, if our pass rush doesn't improve they will get toasted.
It all starts in the trenches. We won superbowls with Larry Brown at CB. Pete Hunter is better then Larry Brown. Give Pete Hunter (and the rest of the secondary) a decent pass rush before you criticize them. How bout that?

I was alarmed to keep seeing the D-linemen and backers constantly running out of their containment lanes. And it's not like they were pushed or blocked out of their lanes. While that happened sometimes, most of the time it was them charging in the wrong direction, or leaving their spots to overpersue in directions away from where the play was developing.
I have to put this partly on coaching also. There's been such an emphasis by the coaching staff this offseason to put in a set of 3-4 schemes that it makes me believe that this has only confused our players, and took away from the practice time needed to nail down the base defense.

This is the chicken or the egg arguement. Good pass rush make corners better, good coverage make pass rush look better.
Either way BP picked the D line and the CB's who are on this team besides Glover and Newman.
He brought in Carson, Eatman, Wiley, resigned Ellis and chose to go with Hunter because he could coach him up.

And who the heck do you suppose they just go get.
I am sure if you tell them which 7-11 they can pick up one they will be glad to listen.

The front 7 is not good enough
This has nothing to do with the secondary and everything to do with upfront
My question is did guys over peruse trying to hard to make a big play instead of sticking to there job and just make a normal routine play

Lot of cap room and many ways to improve this off season. It didn't happen.
I was saying the same thing in July.

A good secondary doesn't necessarily make your pass rush better. Cuz NO DB can cover forever. If the DL simply can't get to the QB soon enough then the secondary will get beat, regardless of who's back there.
But if your DL can get to the QB quickly, you can have 4 Larry Browns back there and they'll put up Superbowl MVP type performances.
There is no chicken or the egg argument here... it's starts on the DL. Period.

I think alot of teams would kill to have Terrance Newman or Roy Williams...we have both
you cant have probowlers at every single position in this day and age. At some point you have to make do with what you have an coach them up. Greg Williams did a sensational job yesterday coaching up what he had in Washington, Mike Zimmer did a poor job with what he had yesterday. They won, we lost.
