He's an explosive pass-rusher that could instantly help us out. I believe he would be good depth to have. How do yall think him and Ware would be in the 4-3?

You don't want two smallish guys at DE in the 4-3...usually one is a speed rusher going against the left side or the weak side with no TE....you usually want more of a Greg Ellis type on the strong side or right side.

We'd be 250, 305, 310, 260 going across the line. That's small.
At a time when the Eagles are learning to run, the Giants are about to beef up their o-line and go with a bruiser at HB, and the Redskins still have Clinton Portis.... I'm not thrilled with the idea of going with a smaller defense. And make no mistake about it, the 3-4 is a bigger defense for us (because, as has been pointed out, it's more like we've got a 5-2 defense where there's 3 300 pound DTs and then the two bookends who weigh in the 250s and 260s).
If we went to the 4-3, we'd have a smaller line and we'd probably have Burnett out there, so we'd be getting smaller at LB too. I'm not wild about.
[View Full Quote]I'd love to have Moss, though, in our current defense. Or even a 4-3 defense if we found much bigger DTs than the guys we already have to clog up more of the running game.

Agreed.
You're more likely to see the 285lb Hatcher at DE.

Well that could be too.
I just don't see us drafting Moss.

It all depends on whether we're staying in a 3-4 or not, of course. Even beyond that it depends on what we do in FA. If we do stay in a 3-4, I'd put Moss right up in the top 3 or 4 most likely picks.

didnt carpenter play the OLb at the end of the yr? why would dallas move him back to the middle and dismiss his play at the outside? that doesnt make any sense at all. if they wanted a ILB they could get one in FA. dallas doesnt need anymore rookies switching posistions. they need verteran leadership

Yeah, he played OLB late in the year. That doesn't mean he's best suited for that position or that he needs to say there, though.
Broken record: Move Carp to James's position and draft a real OLB.

Not that I endorse Moss as the pick, because I don't...although coming out of Ryan High School, I prayed he would take his college act to Austin. He was a consensus five-star prospect.
As far as smallish 4-3 ends are concerned, as long those DEs can rush the passer, guys that size work fine. Dallas went with Haley and Tony Tolbert outside.
Still, that means nothing now. I know what Jerry says publically, but we have no earthly idea what scheme runs here next season.
