Yep.
Ogt had wood for Lawson... Who sorta sucked this year. At least Carp picked up the pace as the year went on.

Oh please. It has nothing to do with Lawson. You guys can homer out about Carp being a 3-4 OLB all you want, but he's not fit for the position.
Edit: By the way, I've already stated I was wrong about Lawson's size. He may turn out to be a fine 3-4 OLB, but he's a little too light for my tastes. There were rumors that he couldn't maitain his weight before the draft, but I wrongly dismissed them.

Well when we go back to the 4-3 it won't matter then.

That's certainly true. I like Carpenter a lot as a 4-3 linebacker.
See my edit too re: Lawson.

BTW I'm impressed you manned up on Lawson.
I think it may save me having to school you on the Cowboy's pick this year.

Well, there were conflicting reports all over the place about his weight. Some said he naturally gravitated towards 230 and some had him at 250. No one really knew the answer. Given the Ellis move (which none of us knew about at that point) it may have been a better move to not draft a LB at all.
But my main opposition to Carp then was that he doesn't fit the role of a 3-4 OLB. I haven't seen anything since then that makes me think he can fit that role in the future, either.

And that may be...
I'm hoping we go back to the 4-3.

I'd be stunned if Ellis comes back as a three-down player, especially in a 4-3 offense where he doesn't line up at LB and get a break from battling 320 pound tackles every play.
With his age and his injury, I think Ellis is going to have to pick a role and run with it. I just can't see him being an all-everything player. Frankly, even without the injury, I wouldn't have been looking for him to keep it up forever anyway.
In my opinion, if we go to the 4-3, either he'll be the pass-rusher on 3rd down or he'll be a responsible guy against the run on 1st and 2nd down.
And some of you might laugh at the idea of him being limited to basically being a run-stopper by only being used on 1st and 2nd down, but if you stop and think about it, it could happen. You certainly can't rule out the possibility that our run defense could suddenly start looking bad if we go with a smaller 4-3 front and if we don't have Zimmer reminding everyone to play the run first (which, I mean, there's a down side to him doing that, but he also did it for a reason -- to stop the run). If we come out and get run on in the first few games, we might be forced into being more responsible on first and second downs.

Yeah, I can see Ellis being a "Fred Dean" or "Jim Jeffcoat" type of player. Put him in on passing situations and let him rush the passer with Ware and Hatcher and you'll see our pass rush improve considerably.

You're a real hoot aren't you?
Where did I show a preference for Moss, much less a fetish?
Oh, and what do Moss and Lawson have in common that a preference for one would explain another?
Seriously, do you ever attempt to make sense, or do you just spout whatever drivel comes to mind?

+10 points for ogt for using the term "hoot" in a sentence.
Nice one!
(I'm considering giving an extra 5 points for the word "drivel" too!)
