Default Stallone Charged with Banned Substance "Human Growth Hormone"

SYDNEY, Australia (AP) -- Aging Hollywood hunk Sylvester Stallone faces stiff fines after trying to bring vials of a muscle-building hormone into Australia, where it is restricted.

Lawyers for Stallone, the 60-year-old star of the "Rocky" and "Rambo" movie franchises, represented him in a Sydney court on Tuesday where he faces one charge of importing a banned substance.

Stallone and his entourage were stopped at Sydney airport and kept for several hours on February 16 as he arrived for a promotional visit, while customs officials searched bags and confiscated items. His hotel room was searched and more items confiscated three days later. (Full story)

Stallone and his group were allowed to leave Australia, and he was not compelled to appear in the Sydney Local Court for Tuesday's hearing.

Human Growth Hormone is officially considered a performance-enhancing drug in Australia, and it cannot be imported without a permit from the Therapeutic Goods Administration.

The maximum penalty for bringing it into Australia illegally is a fine of $11,000 Aust (US$8,644) and five years in prison. Stallone is unlikely to face the maximum penalty.

The case was adjourned until April 24, when Stallone's lawyers will be asked to enter a plea on his behalf.

This substance is also considered a anti-aging product. Not sure whether he uses it for this purpose or to add muscle bulk, or both. Question is, can he hit a fastball? The Rangers could use him if that's the case.

Why do I find this funny? Is it because Rocky the iconic underdog figure who was supposed to represent what was good in sports and be a role model to athletes to work hard for what they want, was found to be doing HGH and I take enjoyment in this kind of twisted irony? I know it's just a character played by Stallone but it sure is some message the guy is sending now not only are real athletes doing it but the guys who played athletes in movies are too.

Stallone has been growing bigger and bigger since he passed the age of 50. All you have to do is see how he looks in the first four Rocky movies in the 70s and 80s and then look at Rocky Balboa (there is no Rocky V). It looks like he put on 60 lbs of muscle (and flab).

On top of this, in Rocky IV he was the hard trained athlete running up the mountains in Russia with the KGB trying to keep up, while Ivan Drago was juiced and hsi wife smoked pot.

He was a super Viet Nam vet in the movies but in real life was a draft dodger who went to Sweden to coach girl's soccer.

The irony of all of this is just too rich.

I have a friend who also can't stand Stallone for this very reason.

I wrote a couple of documentaries for a gunfighter series. I got to be on the set for the filming of one of them. They had a horse who was so flighty and dumb it made me sick. I grew up on a ranch and have little use for worthless horses. I hope that doesn't sound cruel.

So at one point this horse was acting up...again...and I blurted out that I'd send the nag to the glue factory if it was up to me. See above about sounding too cruel.

The wrangler got pissed off at me and said, "that horse has made more money in the movies than you have kid."

I replied, "so has Sly Stallone and I can't stand his *** either."

He not only laughed, he gave me his stuntman's association jacket. The Key Grip on the film set offered me 500 bucks for it. I told him to pound sand.

I resemble that remark-- if you lose the "e", but I've never touched roids, just lots of vitamins and such.
