It's Official. I'm about to become an honest man.
That's right boys and girls, I have finally taken the plunge and asked my lovely GF to be my bride. Of course she accepted.
We went and purchased an engagement ring today. Had to have it special made so it will be in on Friday. It's a white gold band with a 1.25 carat diamond solitare.
We have not set a date, or even begun planning the wedding at this point. She hasn't told her parents yet, because I want to formally ask her father for her hand. Sure hope he gives his blessing, cos it's happening anyway. He should though. He likes me.
I guess my biggest fear is that a girls wedding day is supposed to be like the best day of her life, and I hope that I can adequately fullfill that wish for her.
Wish me luck fellas, I'll need it.
P.S. If anyone has any serious advice for me, I'm all ears.
I have signatures turned off.
SIG PIC THANKS TO JUKE!

Dan, congrats to you and your hool girl.
Don't listen to anyone who tells you that marriage is 50/50 give and take. It isn't. You have to give 100% and so does she. That's how the two of you can make it work.
Also don't listen to anyone who says marriage is terrible. It isn't unless you don't honor it. I've been married 16 1/2 years and I'm happier today than I was the day they said "you may now kiss the bride."
May you live together as long as you want, but never want as long as you live together.
Peace to you and yours.

Congrats! Good luck - you're gonna need it.
Yeah, just kidding. My wife and I are coming up on our second anniversary in July. We tied the knot on a Friday - word of advice, if it's not on a Saturday expect some grumbling from people who won't be able to get off of work or whatever, but don't worry about it. For us, it was an extra day for the honeymoon.
While we were dating, I was saving up money for a ring so I could propose properly to my wife when we kind of stumbled upon the subject of marriage. By that time I already knew what the answer would be if I were to ask, so BAM it was a done deal. Afterwards I picked out the ring and surprised her with a proposal (just to be official) and asked her parents for her hand even though we had already planned everything. Well, better late than never.
The wedding day is definitely the bride's day. We had an outside wedding (yes, in Texas and in July) and we got extremely lucky with the weather. The whole week leading up to the wedding it rained - except for that day - and the whole week afterwards it was over 100 degrees and sweltering. But don't expect perfection - as perfect as it was being an outside wedding with clear blue skies under trees near a pond - she still wishes she'd picked out different songs for the reception . . .
Hostile's right - you can't go halfway and think you've done your duty. You both have to give your all. But it comes back - the more you put in, the more you get back.

Dan, you've had an eventful 12 months. You've become a grandpa and now you're about to be a husband. You're truly being blessed. Congrats.
Oh and don't worry about the wedding. Your bride will want everything to go perfect, but in reality, don't expect everything to be perfect on the wedding day. There will always be hiccups. The only thing that counts is the ceremony.
Your best moment of all is when you see her for the first time in her gown. I've been a bridesmaid in three weddings and the reactions of the grooms vary, but they're all the same.
One said, "Damn, she look good"
One's eyes got real big... Quite funny to see.
The last one had a huge grin, but was tearing up too. He's a real emotional guy.
Thank you to all donated to the Jason Witten Camp drive!
