Daniel Snyder does not like Vanilla Ice Cream...

Daniel Snyder Does Not Like Vanilla Ice Cream, So Says Mike Nolan
By Larry Brown | August 1, 2007

I had been meaning to write this story for quite some time, but it wasn’t until this morning when I linked to a post about Daniel Snyder that I was reminded to share it. I’m finishing up John Feinstein’s book, Next Man Up, which is a behind the scenes account of the 2004 Baltimore Ravens. That season, Mike Nolan was the defensive coordinator with Baltimore, his last year with the team prior to accepting a head coaching position with the 49ers. Well, Nolan shared a story from his days with the Redskins. Apparently he and owner Daniel Snyder did not get along.Early that season, after a Redskins loss, Snyder told Nolan that his defensive calls were “too vanilla.” Like the other coaches, Nolan had figured out by then that trying to explain football to Snyder was pointless, since he already had the game figured out. A few days later a gallon of 31 Flavors ice cream showed up on Nolan’s desk with a note that said, “This is what I like. Not vanilla.”
Nolan laughed and sent Snyder a note: “Thanks for the ice cream. My kids enjoyed it.”
“The first time it was actually kind of funny,” Nolan said. “I didn’t mind it at all.”
The next time wasn’t as funny.
The Redskins lost on the road to Dallas, and Nolan went into his office late Sunday night to start looking at game tape. When he arrived, there were three giant canisters of melting 31 Flavors ice cream on his desk with another note: “I wasn’t joking. I do not like vanilla.”
Feinstein had the story confirmed by other sources around the league. How great is that one? Leave it to Snyder to take a fun figure of speech and turn it into literal meaning. If anyone wants to find out why the Redskins suck so much, you don’t have to look any further than the top. Now, whenever the Niners and Redskins meet, you know whose side to wager on.

Yes, and an older wiser owner just yells at his DC during drills.

The next time a Cowboy fan thinks that it's pathetic for Jerry Jones to be standing around on the sidelines during games, they should re-read this story to gain a better perspective of the word...

Yeah, he was so bad that he is now a head coach in the NFL and building a team much better than the Skins.
Yep, he ruined his career.

No, he was/is a great coordinator, which is why he keeps getting chances.

My guess if that you polled 32 GM's throughout the leauge and asked them who knew more about defense, Nolan or Snyder....

Jones may be many things, but he is always man enough to tell you what he thinks to your face. Ice cream dialogue is Snyder's thang.

If Snyder doesn't understand the complexities of football, how would he know that "Nolan sucked?"

Well, what is the one constant in your scenarios?
Dan Snyder.
Not to be confrontational (I guess I was before but) I have a friend who is a typical Skins fan. He is a die hard, homer, they can do nothing wrong Skins fan. I have told him for years that as long as Snyder owns the team they will never win a Super Bowl. He argued with me and I told him he would have to wait and see.
I talked to him last week and he finally admitted that I may be right. (Something I knew all along).
The problem is that the Skins go after big name players past their prime and give them too much money for the antisipated production. Then when the team falls short, they blame the coaches. Even Gibbs is getting heat for not being able to get the job done. And The one constant in the whole mess is Danny.
Like I said, The Skins will never win a championship while Snyder owns them.
Here's to a long life of Skins ownership for Danny.

Maybe the players on the skins just sucked and Nolan had no other choice... seems to have done alright everywhere else.
