Yes, if Romo is a hit and DMac is gone, and we have #2, we trade back. If Romo is a hit and DMac is taken #1, can you imagine what Brohm could be worth? Another 2nd in 2008 and another #1 in 2009 for trading just a few picks.

This is unanswerable. There simply is no way to accurately project who will be a hot commodity and who will fade some a year in advance.
Hell, as good as McFadden seems to be now, it's not out of the realm of possibility that he could have a dropoff next season or that some other RB could have a great year and end up projected higher ...... much stranger things have happened.

I'd draft Flo's or Henry's replacement.

First off I say we throw in our second first to move up and get Mcfadden, I beleive that is our plan.
If we can't get Mcfadden, I would like to see us come away with Slaten and a WR like Jackson or Manningaham, or a CB like Cason or the guy from Kansas with the funny name.

Aqib Talib, and being a Husker fan(for the most part) i've watched a lot of that Conf. and i'm of the opinion this kid may end up being in TNew's class in 3 years.

Trade the pick to someone looking QB.
Brian Brohm, QB, Louisville if we need a QB.
Our hands certainly wouldn't be tied.

Long - I like this pick
Baker - not a believer yet, not sure I will be
Campbell - I need to focus on this year, not sure
Dorsey - Like that pick
Cason - Like that pick
The thing is I really want Fire Power on offense out of this draft. I really like both McFadden and Slaton and would love to have one of these guys. The thing about both is they bring a dimension he have not had in years on Offense, and that is the threat as a receiver as well. I would love to see us add a player to this offense that gives that Bush/Faulk dimension. OH MY!
Not sure if we can get either one with our next First rounder. If we are at #2 and who ever is drafting #1 will switch for our other first rounder, at this point I do it to get McFadden. That may be subject to change after next year, but right now I do it.

They do have Felix Jones and he will get big numbers, but barring injury DMac won't fall off much. Certainly not out of the top 10, where we will certainly be. Unless he gets arrested for something. Even then i'm guessing with his game and Hog roots, he'd have to do something awfully egregious for Jerry to pass.

we get to play out this year before it really matters. there are far too many factors to be decided before we draft *again* without our last *real* picks even playing a game yet.
we have to see what our players do
AND
the next draft class still has a year to play before we'll know who the top 10 are.
file this under "premature".

Well said, and it will be said again and again and again by those of us who have your thought process, between now and next April.

This is all "probably true", but not a certainty.
Besides, the primary point was about who we would take if McFadden were gone, and my point is that if we can't even say McFadden, who is as close to a sure ting as we can see at this point, is certain not to drop off, then we can't say that about anyone ...... we just can't sit and project at this point.
Hell, I think that the whole thread even starts on a pretty shakey premis, which is that we would have our choice of any player in the draft not named McFadden. But it was the originator's choice to set the terms of the thread, so we have to go with it.

Jake Long will be a franchise left tackle for 15 years .....
He is a beast and he has good feet.
A WR is needed also but hopefully Dallas can pick one with its 32nd pick...
Bye Bradie.....

Let me precursor this by saying I'm biased. However, I'd go with Desean Jackson for a few reasons.
1. Our WR's are old (restating the obvious) and we do need to address that soon. He'd be a good slot receiver initially and eventually a premier #1 guy.
2. He has superb cuts/balance and would make an excellent punt or kickoff returner. Watch some of his YouTube videos and you'll know what I'm talking about.
3. DJax has incrediby blazing fast speed. I can see the guy running a 4.2-4.3 40 in the combines next year. After watching him play live in a few games last year, it really seemed like everyone else on the field was in slow motion when he broke stride and start hauling a$$.
The obvious downside to DJax is his size and whether or not he'll be able to take the hits in the NFL. Hopefully by combine time, he'll be around 185-190 lbs.
My 2 cents.
EDIT: I just read an article about DJax from last year and apparently he was timed at 4.29 on a day he didn't even know he was going to be clocked.

Nobody is an NFL beast before their senior year of college ...... or even after it for that matter.
The only NFL beasts are those that prove it on an NFL field against NFL players.

Hypothetically speaking (DMac already gone), I'd consider trading down a few spots (like we did with Roy Williams), but stay in the top 10, and pick up an extra pick in the 2nd or 3rd round.
I'd like to come away with a CB (Henry's replacement), WR (TO and Glenn's replacement), and/or a DT (Fergy's replacement). Any two of the three positions would be fine by me.

I love Jackson, I think we will do what it takes to get Mcfadden to revive our great RB tradition, when you grew up watching Dorsett and Emmit a "good" rb won't do.
Slaton and Jackson are the other two players who I think would give our offense a young explosive elte player, any of these three guys would be nice.
Jackson reminds me of a cross between Ted Ginn Jr. and T.O.

Same could be said of the presidential race, but "projection" on that 15 months in advance seems to be billion dollar industry. I agree it's impossible to pin point a guy or even a handfull of guys, but that doesn't make "projecting" wrong or any less fun. We all have our opinions and i think we are all smart enought to know, no matter how steadfast we are in our opinions, no one knows for sure despite what the thread starter intended. But that's why i love this place, because there are so many knowledgable people with some many varied opinions, even 8 months before the draft. There is no right or wrong, just discussion.
