Paul Crew (Adam Sandler) is the QB of the Mean Machine (Prisoner Team) in the movie The Longest Yard.

No! That particular claim to fame should belong to Burt Reynolds.

I have not even watched the remake. The original is too good to screw up.

And they did. It's a shame cuz they could have done something really good with a part 2.
Remember in the original when the warden(Eddie Albert) threatened Paul Crew that if he didn't throw the game he'd pin the killing of Caretaker on him and he'd spend his life in prison?
Then Paul Crew asked the old guy on the sideline, who was spending a longer term in prison for hitting the warden "was it worth it?" The old guy responded that he thought it was.
Now, fast forward 30 years for the Longest Yard Part 2. Adam Sandler would land in prison that still has a traditionally strong guard football team. He also, being a former star player, is asked to run a prison team...and who would be there to help him do it? Why it's the original Paul Crew, that never got to leave prison because he did not throw the game and the warden followed through on his promise of pinning Caretakers murder on him.
Much better story line than just rehashing the original IMO.

Maybe its just me but....remaking old movies doesnt ruin/affect the original IMO.
What happens? The original is destroyed and never to be watched again? no.
Its all about .... its good business and gets younger people to possibly become interested in the original. I know I have looked up some older movies after watching a remake. There are pro's and cons' to it... but doesnt affect greatness of original... probably takes its greatness to another level... and exposure

I'll admit it, I would have watched it with that plot.
