Default Signalgate: What is fair?

I want to see what the prevailing attitude is here, so I can compare it to the Vick polls. What is the more approriate punishment for the Pats?

Has to be a loss of picks. That's the only penalty serious enough. Forfeits, although more serious, are not a viable option.

Forfiet! Ya see, that is what I think would be more appropriate! They won't do it because it would cause the league to set a precident.

Suspend Belichick 16 games and a first and third round pick, then fine the Pats $3 million.

Some may say that 16 games is to much, but he is a coach and as they did with Wade Wilson, he should be held to a much higher standard. Cheating from the highest levels within a team should be dealt with harshly. If you make an example, other teams will be far less likely to do any other type of cheating for fear of such a harsh penalty.

Jerry Jones in the draft room is suicide on the football field. The line of scrimmage is EVERYTHING. Something Jerry doesn't understand.

You think cheating on that level is only worth a one game suspension? That is a slap on the wrist for a coach. The team suffers the rest of the penalty which I beleive is more than just a slap on the wrist, but isn't near as harsh as it should be.

Huge salary cap fine, Belichick suspended for the remainder of this season, loss of the Patriots 1st round, 4th round, and 7th round picks. They were warned. Goodell needs to send a strong message to stop teams from cheating.

Lifetime ban. Nothing less plus the loss of all draft picks in 2008. This has called in to question the integrity of the NFL and calls into question every game that has been coached under Belacheat. This is far worse than anything Vick has done.

So you think the entire team should be punished? Maybe suspend Brady, even though he had nothing to do with it?

Again, if this was the Raiders, who would care? I mean, c'mon, teams should be sending their signals to the Raiders before every game just to make it reasonably fair.

What should they do to teams that sign players cut by their opponents just to bring them in for a scouting report? What if one team found (stole) another team's playbook? Should they give it back without looking at it?

This is about all the hate for the Pats, not about the rules.

If you believe that the Patriots' coach is solely responsible, then a one game suspension would be even less appropriate. If he was acting on his own, I would expect a multiple year suspension for the coach. I just have a difficult time believing that the Kraft was completely ignorant about what was occurring. Kraft is also ultimately responsible for the behavior of his coaching staff.

This is far more serious (or should be) to the NFL than fighting some dogs.

The head man (Bellichick) should get all Vick gets and more.

1. They forfeit the Jets game. Standings would then be: Jets 1-0, Pats 0-1

2. Belichick is suspended for 8 games. No contact with the team in any manner during that time.

3. The Patriots lose a day-1 draft pick. A 1st rounder if it ends up being #21 or lower or a 2nd rounder if they have a pick in the top-20.

If there is a second offense then it would result in a lifetime ban for Belichick and the forfeiture of multiple draft picks as well as a spot in the playoffs (if they earned one).
Captain Nathan Brittles: "Only the man who commands can be blamed. It rests on me... mission failure!"

"Jerry Jones is a billionaire fan who bought his own team for the express purpose of buying his way into the game. He wants to hang out with the players, stand in front of the cameras, be the face of the team (yech), make personnel moves as if this were a video game, and more than anything else, be seen as the guy who made it all happen."

No. Vick got a indefinate suspension for committing an act that gave the NFL a black eye. What Bellicheat has done is far worse for the NFL because it calls into question are the games fixed and how much cheating goes on. Also it is a clear violation of the code of conduct. This action is illegal and it was stressed this offseason. It falls along the same lines as gambling on NFL games even if you are not playing.
