Default NBA predictions?

Celtics with Garnett, Ray Allen and Pierce are going to be nasty.

Suns aging and injured, Mavs and Nowitschoke artists....

Spurs vs. Celtics in Finals

Seriously, it's hard to argue with the Spurs representing the West, though they would need to repeat for the first time ever. The only team that matches up with them at all is the Mavs, but since the game seven win in 2006 they have had two notable collapses in the playoffs, so even that advantage is probably gone. It will come down to coaching and performance, which right now, is advantage, Spurs.

The Suns will be right up there as well, but it's hard to give them a chance when they have to go through San Antonio in the playoffs. They've also lost depth in the offseason with the strange salary-cap purging.

The Mavs I'm not as confident backing with the past few years playoff history and no significant additions that would light a spark under the team. But with the salary cap and only 2nd round draft picks to work with, what can you do? They'll be in the thick of things, and they still match up well with SA, but Dirk must return to the playoff player he was pre-2006 Finals. Not having to mess with the 72 win record would be nice, too. There's only one season record that matters, and that's winning 16 in April-May-June.

In the East, Miami has even less depth than last year, but they have just as much shot as anyone. I'm interested to see how the Bobcats do this season. But in the end it will be the Celtics, Bulls, Pistons, and Cavs (even without any offseason upgrades) battling it out for the Eastern title.

As long as the Mavs don't play an athletic team like Phoenix or GSW, I can see them making it to the finals.

spurs are gonna win it all baby! the only teams that can beat the spurs in a seven game series are the mavs and the pistons, and thats not even likely unless there is an injury. the suns have no chance, the spurs are a horrible match up for them, especially now that they have no one to guard duncan.

ps celtics are overrated

spurs over pistons in 6 games

I'll say Spurs over Wizards in 5 games.

When they were healthy last year, the Wiz were pretty solid.

That's an interesting selection. Arenas has the tendency to get hot, and Jamison and Butler are solid #'s 2 and 3. On paper, and as you said healthy, they have one of the best starting fives in the East (or at least, their three big stars are only second to Boston's).

I'm not committed to that pick by any means (the Wiz) and if I had to actually put money on it, I might pick a different team.

I picked them because they'll be somewhere in the mix, and have a shot if they're healthy. And they're definitely a dark-horse to Boston, Detroit and even Cleveland and Miami... so I look really smart if they end up doing well.

And last but not least... if they do make the finals against the Spurs, I'll be able to go to at least two Spurs Finals games when they come to D.C.! That would be just too sweet!
