...class personified was inducted into the Hall of Fame.
God, how I miss him. :starspin
16 years ago today, I was in jail.
Thanks for the memory, Hos.
Man, that's an awesome picture.
I love how the "man with the hat" it is symbiotic with the skycrapers in the background.
16 years ago i was preping for my first day of kindergarden
Mens or Womens?
Actually brought a tear to my eye to think of this former Longhorn player and Cowboy coach and all that he brought to the game.
I hope the other guy was in the ER.
There was no other guy. I got arrested for DWI (it was BS - I passed 3 different breathalizers- the charge was later dropped, but I still spend a day in jail and watched the cowboys/giants game from behind a jail door).
And I was gonna hook up that night too. Stupid cops ruined my night.
Hey wait a minute... I got my times mixed up. I was in jail for Tom Landry ROH induction, not HOF induction.
My bad. Carry on.
class act is 100% correct!
A true class act, legend, and hero!
I hope Bubba was gentle
This is the induction that topped all, and I do have total recollection of this one.
Not wanting our standard back of the crowd seats, the wife and I showed up at 8am the morning of the ceremony. I was toting the revolutionary video camera in a large back, back when you had a cumbersome power pack and huge camera. Cutting edge stuff.
We walked right up stage side, just to the right, as the center was roped off for the special guests. We stood there for hours, not moving to even pee. As the crowd showed up, we were told we could stay where we were, as long as we didn't interfere with anyone entering the guest area. We were very obedient.
Just before the ceremony was to start, and noone else seemed to be arriving, the 'guard' at the rope pulled it back, told us since we were so well behaved, to go on in and have a seat. We rushed in and sat no more that 2 or 3 rows behind the Landry family. A few more guests arrived, and sat around us, including Ed jones and Randy White.
I have Landry's speech and much more on video. I'll be searching for it this weekend.
Thanks for the reminder of this day in history Hos.
Oh man, if you could download that and post in on here, I'd be in heaven.
One of the legends in football ...I was in Hawaii; Oahu (Aiea).
I have yet to hear anyone speak ill of this great man. There is a reason for that.
Coach landry was one of a kind. Class personified.
Landry was quite the innovator when it came to football...
He was a Christian man first, husband and father second, coach third...
However, he was a hard man to deal with, I've read...he was hard nosed, never cussed, but he ridiculed players with the best of them...
Bum knee and all, he still "ran the hill" with his team everyday, passing by players telling them to "hurry up...keep up"...
Now he has a real comfortable place to sit and look down at the Cowboys...and watch them play the game he loved...
What a great person....
