Well we don't have Larry Allen or Filip Flipovic at WR anymore. I'd say we've downgraded since then.

    Didn't we go 4-3 to start 2003?

Someone remind me why we gave up the ship and turned it over to Hutch???

We would have to be on offense for 50 minutes a game for TO, TG, and JJ to have those stats. If we throw enough to get 2600-3000 yard for our receivers, we won't run but 15-20 times a game!

    Not to mention 15 picks!

I don't think he did drugs. He came back the next year but got into Parcells doghouse and was cut. I think he is out of the league now.

BP said Ross was a street player that would not learn; he got cut from us, then his next two teams, then got caught selling drugs. He is now in the big house.
God, there was a lot of garbage on that team!!!
Roy, Gurode, Ellis, Adams, Davis, Roy- Dixon is gone again. So 6 out of that whole roster is left in 3 years.

The thought of the 2002 team was they would be stellar on defense and could be serviceable on offense and make it to the playoffs.

Glover was the huge pickup, IIRC, he had 50 sacks over the 5 years prior. They figured Glover's and Hardy's presence would open up Ellis and Ekuban. Roy would create a great safety combo with Woody. And Westbrook still had some juice left in him. In theory, this was pretty good.

    They had numerous problems.

For starters, Glover was great but the fact they found out was that at best Greg Ellis was an 8 sacks a year guy. That's not bad, but when your weakside DE is a 3 sacks a year guy and your LB's can't blitz to save their lives, you're going to lack pressure on the QB. Hardy played solidly, but was at the point of his career where he was just a filler at SLB and wasn't the answer to help the lack of the pass rush.

Dat got injured in the first game and didn't return until week 10 leaving them to play with Keith Adams at MLB who was horrible. Westbrook got cut after the first week and that had them starting Duane freaking Hawthorne at CB.

In reality, Campo was an awful coach. He had Woody playing the slot in the nickel. While Woody did an admirable job, that's just not smart. He stuck with Dwayne Goodrich and even when he became the D-Coordinator over at Cleveland, he had the reputation of the coach that refused to blitz.

It wasn't like the 2002 had no talent, but the talent was pretty unreliable, the injuries killed them, and the coaching was putrid.

    Rich.......

I've never put all the blame on Campo. I know Bill took his team to the playoffs...but Campo didn't exactly have talent to work with.

    Poor guy.

Still...I was glad to see him kicked to the curb.
