Poor Everson Walls. He had a fine career, but that's the only highlight we ever see.

But Walls' career isn't marred by that one play. That play was more a result of what Clark did to make the catch rather than what Walls didn't do to prevent it.

    Yeah, I remember that day...

Some friends got together and came to watch the game. Three Cowboy fans and one 49'er fan.

    Not a good time...

Did you know the 49ers had 6 turnovers in that game? 3 interceptions and 3 losr fumbles and they still won. Also, when you watch the Danny White fumble at the end, it's almost identical to the Tom Brady tuck rule play. Ours was a fumble, bur 20 years later it's an incomplete pass. Strange.

Gil Brandt has it wrong in his memory. It was WR Doug Donley that dropped a pass, but it happened on a third and seven as we were trying to run out the clock prior to the final 49ers drive. Dropping that ball caused us to punt the ball back to Montana. I remember it well because after the game was over I kept thinking about that drop by Donley. That play still ticks me off. we should have won Super Bowl that year. One of my toughest loses ever.

Everson Walls actually had a really good game. he intercepted Montana twice in that game. The last one should have sealed the game but we couldn't run out the clock on offense. Not many corners can say they got two INTs against him in a playoff game.

I do remember Montana had 3 int's but none of them were costly. All it takes is one ill-timed turnover to do you in and White's fumble came at the worst possible time. His fumble was a fumble and wouldn't have been called a tuck had the rule been around at that time. I explained the rule earlier in the thread.

Yeah, I lost. I'm not into trashing my team, players, or coaches and claiming to just be objective.

The whole game replay is on NFLN right now. I won't watch the end, of course, but these old games are still fun to watch just to see how different things were.

Watch the Tom Brady play. He does the exact same thing. He is pulling the ball in to avoid the hit. The rules were changed between our game and that one.

It's really good. One thing I love about these old games is that the line play is so much faster. The interior linemen are way smaller of course (not as fat for one thing) but a lot quicker than what we see today.

Vin Scully and Hank Stram doing the game... So cool.

Tony Hill just caught a long one from Danny and we take the lead. :)
