$335,000,000 FOR STD PREVENTION IN ECONOMIC STIMULUS BILL
    Wed Jan 28 2009 09:58:30 ET

Democrats may have eliminated provisions in the "job stimulus" on birth control and sod for the National Mall -- but buried on page 147 of the bill is economic stimulation for the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases!

The House Democrats’ bill includes $335 million for sexually transmitted disease (STD) education and prevention programs at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

In the past, the CDC has used this STD education funding for programs that many Members of Congress find objectionable and arguably unrelated to a mission of economic stimulus [such as funding events called “Booty Call” and “Great Sex” put on by an organization that received $698,000 in government funds.]

"Whether this funding has merit is not the question; the point is it has no business in an economic plan supposedly focused on job creation," says a stimulated Hill source.

I heard something interesting....this "stimulus" bill is nothing more than a fulfillment of Dukakis' campaign promises...

This is something that should fall under a different bill not part of a stimulus package. This does nothing to stimulate the economy and that is part of the problem with these give away proposals they have nothing to do with creating real jobs or stimulating the economy

Agreed. However, this kind of crap ALWAYS happens when the government starts throwing this much money around. A lot of the war funds ended up being put to dubious uses, I have absolutely no doubt that some of the stimulus money will go towards special interests regardless of how they choose to apply it.

Problem is, just like Bush/Paulson, this will be forced down our throats and ramrodded through Congress on the backs of a "crisis". While I do believe it's a crisis, they're merely using it as a vehicle to get all the other things done they'd not have gotten in "normal" times. Obama's cheif of staff even said so.

    Agreed.

Funny thing is you got a President that is meeting with the GOP, actually seems to want to get this thing passed. The GOP is appreciative of him talking with them and liked his tone but what is going to ruin this thing is the Dem congress up to their stupidity again.

The american people by and large did not like the first stimulus plan, hate the idea that we have yet to find out where all of the money went and how it was being used by those it was given to and some feel the repubs fail in line with it only when they get some....incentive.

    Now we got this crap.

This is not the bill that needs to be added with a bunch of partisan crap. Furthermore it did not help that they, the dems, did this whole thing without asking any republicans to help in drafting it in the first place.

I agree, this is expected to be voted on today and chances are it will pass even without republican votes. I just find it strange that these congressmen and women can hold meetings about stupid things like steroid use in baseball but will not have open debate on something as massive as 850 Billion dollar stimulus

What will be funny is if this President ends up siding with the GOP against his own party more and more to be able to get anything done.

The radical Dems would turn on him fast.

LOL..... I think they need to add in about $50 mil for Viagra distributions to the elderly.

    CBZ needs a stimulus too.

    EDIT: Sorry CBZ :D

No BS, I think that what needs to happen here is that Americans need to take notice of who votes for this bill and we all need to make a concsious decision that come next election, if you voted for this bill, against our express wishes, then you don't get my vote no matter who is running against you. If you vote for this bill, it means that your political career, in my state is over.

I'm dead serious. If these people pass this BS usage of our taxes, if these people piss away another Trillion dollars on our tab and make our childrens children responsible for this, we need to just run them right out of office.

I would like to hear the idiots stand up in front of the public and explain exactly how this is going to stimulate the economy. Heck maybe we are missing something but I have yet to hear anyone come up with a logical explanation of how our economy is better off by throwing 335 million at STD prevention. It is almost comical to see our congressmen slam the automakers over corporate jets and then turn around and throw 10 times the money on this type of BS

Where are all of our liberal forum friends at? We haven't heard a peep from them yet regarding this 350million for STD's.

There is also only 275billion being used for TAX CUTS. The rest is being spent and given away.

    Thoughts?

I was listening to a Congressman today talk about the bailout and he was saying that we have to change our economic practices and how the US manages it's money. He went on to say that the bill was filled with things that didn't effect our economy etc., etc. Lastly, when asked if he would support it, he said yes. I mean, I just don't get it. He said the bill is going to pass and while it's not a great piece of legislation, at least it's something. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I honestly don't think these people realize that these are real dollars and cents we are talking about. Somebody is eventually going to have to pay this back. It sickens me.

It is the typical Washington pork and special projects getting attached to a bill that has nothing to do with the intent of the bill. The bill is to stimulate and help grow the economy. I think STD prevent is a worthy cause but it should not be in this package.

Wait I thought Obama was not going to support stuff like this oh well so much for change.

Instead as always despite the rhetoric we get the same old crap once again.

Action speak louder than words and so far it is business as usual

There is nothing wrong with supporting STD prevention but it has nothing to do with a stimulus package. This is an item that should be looked at on its own merits not stuck in a bill that has nothing to do with stimulating the economy.

I agree this is nothing new and these people should be called out when they introduce these projects to a bill so that the public knows who is responsible for this non-sense. The congress had no issue calling out the big 3 automaker CEO about flying to Washington in private jets well congress should be held to the same standard and be asked why he or she introduced this type of garbage into a stimulus bill
