I cant claim to understand suicide or anything like that, but its hard not for me to think of this guy as selfish and cowardly. To me, the whole site is merely an attempt to justify taking the easy way out.

    Apologies if that offends anybody.

Not sure why suicide is seen as a selfish act. Killing is a selfish act, but if it's your own life you can do with it what you wish

Regardless of one's thoughts of suicide based on religious conviction or their own personal taste on the rightness or wrongness of the act... The thing that struck me was how little we truly know about anyone else except ourselves– and how that can lead to some very big surprises. People are very good at hiding their "self-talk" and what they are truly thinking about any situation.

It's the people a person's suicide has an effect on. Loved ones, for example.

And although this guy actually took the most preventative measures possible to not inconvenience anyone, I still think it's heedless.

Personally, I view it as selfish because of the way I view life-- it's a gift. To reject it is just downright unappreciative. Especially to those slowly dying in the hospital beds that would give anything for just a few more years, months, weeks, days... hours even.

But I also understand that life isn't a gift to everyone. To some it's a prison. To some it's hell. It seemed like neither to this guy, but it was the apparent impending torment awaiting him that he just did not want to see.

I'll just leave it as this... I wasn't meant to understand everything.

It is selfish in that the people you leave behind often do not understand the reason. This guy at least has said why so they can understand. No one will be left with a "oh why didn't I notice the signs".

Hey at the end of the day, I think suicide is a coward's way out, but this guy thought it out, cannot be said to be mentally ill and offed himself. Who am I to tell him he was wrong?

Suicide is a cowards way out. I'd venture to say this guy hasn't been through half of what I've been through in my life. I've considered the act myself. But it's something that doesn't make sense.

I too stopped reading. Maybe I'll come back to it. But to me it's just not that interesting.

I think the guy made a lot of interesting points on why he was decided to kill himself. Many are calling what he did selfish, but I've seen what old age does to people and the emotional toll it takes on the family while the person withers away. Living past your time while your family sacrifices to care for you could be considered selfish. My mother took nearly a year to die from cancer and on a couple of occasions she told me she hated living that way and wished she would go ahead and die. The guy was losing it mentally and he didn't want to end up as a drooling idiot and be a drain to society.

The author of the site was entirely too long winded. It took him paragraphs to say what could be said in just a few sentences.

In the brief part I read,he did get one thing right; 99% chance the US will eventually have a massive economic collapse. It is not possible to run up that debt without repercussions and there are no examples in world history of it working.
This is a virtual lock, folks. But when is the question. It could've awhile still as the Us economy is so diverse and robust.
As for the suicide...I'll have thread more.

Depression is a real thing. And its not just being sad. Your brain processing is entirely based on chemical reactions. Not everyone has the same brain chemistry. When people hit an emotional dead end and have an imbalance in their brain, decision making is greatly impaired. Common sense is gone. Hopelessness controls you. It's literally a state of temporary insanity.

It has nothing to do with being a coward. How many war vets have taken their own life? Are they cowards? Pro athletes, Junior Seau...was he a coward? Many, many others too numerous to name.

What you say is absolutely right, .. depression is real, and a tough thing to endure.

But that is not the case with this guy. He decided, .. "I think I want to kill myself on my 60th birthday."

He didn't want to face old age. 'Whaaaaaaa'

But for all he knew he may have lived to be 90 and died in his sleep.

He thought he would write a blog about it and look real smart, .. but he doesn't, .. he looks real dumb to me.

Read through it all. Guy seems much more like a control freak to me, than sad or depressed or "Giving up". Just wanted control over something that is random. Ah well to each their own. His ego about the whole thing annoys me, you could tell he was really proud of it all, wanting to get into the Guinness book of records etc. It has some big time political agenda points in it, and I could see how one would easily view this as some left wing conspiracy fake blog.

Whatever though. Don't see how anyone can hate on the decision, it was his to make. At least he did what he could do take care of his own, and made it interesting for others in numerous ways.

I can agree with this.. Really really long winded and over explains everything.

Yeah, sorry, I didn't even read the article. I was just responding to the comment about only cowards commit suicide.

Killing yourself certainly can have ramifications depending on what you believe. So I won't go down that road, even though it can make for a fascinating conversation. But I agree in general that doing something, especially something as important as suicide, for the sole purpose of gaining attention is not best practice. Hopefully he found what he was looking for.

This was very interesting to me. I myself love life WAY to much to even contemplate killing myself so to hear about it from someone who has been planning it out in so much detail was definitely interesting. He seemed very happy with his decision and in a very level headed state of mind i guess for the average suicide. Crazy stuff.

So why did he do it?

I'm not interested in reading the guy's life story.

To put all your loved ones through that is selfish.
Easy, he's a coward, end of story.

The guy doesn't deserve for anybody to read his website, he is a nobody.

As easily put as, he didn't want to get old and deal with the effects of doing so.
I read some of his articles, if you can call them that and I'm guessing from the things he'd written, he was probably more afraid of growing old alone. It's a pretty sad look in to someone's life. A life that didn't consist of the tragedies that almost all of us face and none of the more horrible ones that many of us are lucky enough to avoid. And he still couldn't find a good reason to live with that in mind. That's a tragedy in and of it self.
