Hopefully this topic is relevant enough to remain in this forum. There are so many phrases and lines that you hear get repeated, or rehashed and repeated all the time. Since the offseason is slow and every other thread is a thread about this player or that player I thought it'd be fun to play a little game.

Each post you can put an overused or annoying line you hear used. Preferably overused but it can pretty much be any line as long as it's more or less cliche. I'll start:

    Pull the trigger Jerry.

    i could care less.

i've said it before but i'll say it again, that annoys the hell out of me. seriously, think about what you are trying to say and what you are actually saying.

"These two teams don't like each other."

This drives my father nuts. He always replies, "Which two teams do like each other?"

We don't need draft picks as much as play makers.

my theory is that that came from a sport outwith american football where there are more teams. i know for example as a celtic fan there are clubs who the supporters tend to get on with, for example villareal or st. pauli, while there clubs who we tend to have rivalries with/hate outside our own league such as hamburg, linfield or chelsea. soccer in particular seems to bring more social aspects with it to the fan base ie religion, social class, political leaning than american football therefore you often see a friendship of sorts between clubs with similar backgrounds that you don't get as far as i can gather in america.
not saying all the attatched baggage is a good thing or that in terms of american sport the saying makes sense, just offering a theory on its origins.

He's a "player's coach." Hate that term. It has such a negative connotation.

Leadership is the single most annoying and overused word when it comes to sports.

    Followed closely by chemistry.

Oh god, that just reminded me of another line I kept hearing being overused by Cowboy players in post game interviews.

    "We just didn't execute"

However true it may or may not be it got really annoying to continually hear that.

I totally disagree. No way the 2008 Cowboys beat Philly 3 times in a row. That locker room was a mess. Once we lost all the idiots, suddenly they became a resilient tight knit group.

Keith Brooking didn't have an impact on this defense during our run last December and January?

    Leadership is everything in sports.

Or maybe it's because we had a healthy Tony Romo and the defense was playing lights out.

Chemistry and leadership didn't help us beat Minnesota, but I guess they have the messiah of chemistry and leadership in Favre. Too bad he couldn't lead that last pass into the hands of his own receiver.

People that point to chemistry and leadership typically do so because they don't know what else to point to. And that's the truth.

The use of the word “sexy” in sports. Sex involves sex or sexuality. Stop twisting the word to describe something non-sexual like draft picks.
