According to NFL Players Association figures, Mincey can earn as much as $4.5 million over the next two seasons. Mincey received a $500,000 signing bonus and his $1 million base salary is also guaranteed. He is due a base salary of $1.5 million in 2015 with $200,000 is guaranteed.

McClain signed a three-year deal worth $3.05 million. He received a $300,000 signing bonus and will receive base salaries of $750,000, $1 million and $1 million. The max value of McClain's deal is $3.8 million.

Mincey's contract appears to have 1.5 million in incentives since the SB and base salaries are only 3 million (and Archer states as much as 4.5 million).

Mincey SB $500k and $200k guaranteed in 2015
    2014 1.0 million
    2015 1.5 million

    McClain SB $300K
    2014 $750k
    2015 1.0 million
    2016 1.0 million

Those numbers don't add up. Would be $2.1 million in cap space.

Only the top 51 salaries count.

Those would both be in the top 51. The bottom 5 or 6 (of the Top 51) make around $400k.

The last two salaries from the previous cap total have dropped out of the accounting so you have to subtract those to get everything to come out correctly.

Obviously. The point is the difference to the cap is the salaries minus the two lowest salaries.

Good numbers all round, we can walk away next year easily.

    Numbers still wouldn't add up.

We gained $2,100,000 in salaries. We would lose $840,000. That's still more than the $1.1M Archer reported.

Looks like both salaries are easily dumped after this year. So all the fuss about the length of the deals seems to be for nothing.

It is a typo. Instead of 2.1 mill he wrote 1.1 mill.

The point remains that we signed two cheap deals

Nothing wrong with the signings, assuming more is to come later. The belief is these guys are better depth than the guys we were forced to sign mid-season and clearly were overmatched.

I think they should've resolved the Ware situation sooner and then gone after a young guy like Houston.

Decent contract terms considering these two will be second or third on the depth chart at their positions.

I guess I don't mind it. I'm not thrilled, but depth on the D-line is important. I don't think we have amazing LBers or a secondary, but I'm less worried about our depth at those positions. We pretty much need to rebuild the entire D-line, starters and backups. I like these guys as backups. Just please don't start them.
