That's really kind of lame, considering the wording. Asked in such a way, as Gestapo, brown shirt, garbage is easy to refute, the answer being 'no'.

But semantics aside, let's not be derailed as it doesn't dispute the intent to create a force, 'equally strong and funded' as our standing military.

And why can't we continue to count on our military to achieve strategic goals (and what are they)?? Has the absence of attacks on the homeland in the last 8 years been somehow forgotten? Are we - perish the though, as it was considered fear mongering under the previous admin if they even suggested it - in danger of something?

No he didnt and he makes sure you understand that in the speech. He wants them to be just as strong, but more loyal to him.

Where did you get that from? See what I mean? Obama has become Cobra Commander (or at least Destro), Stalin, Hitler all rolled into one to many of you.

I wouldn't think so. That's like saying Microsoft has an army with its 90,000 employees. They're well funded and numerous. They aren't an army.

they also forget that there are enough troops in the states, on active duty, to suppress any sort of rebellion

not to mention there is a National Guard and Reserves

crap, we have the freakin' NSA to alert the troops well in advance

No matter what anyone believes Obama intended by his actual words, where is he going to get the money to fund his new group/army/volunteers? Where is he going to find at least half a trillion dollars? Will China fund his new group though massive debt obligations and is this the best way to use our extremely limited resources?

Microsoft hasn't been contracted to meet the strategic needs of the U.S.
The stated intent and the force pretty much make this a bad analogy.

It's amazing for anyone defend this, as brazenly stated as it is, but even more so, considering how Bush was called a Nazi for putting together Homeland Security, which was just the already existing agencies functioning under one roof, so to speak.

Man political allegiance is an awful thing.

The Saudis will be happy to do it. Birds of a feather . . . until they discover that Obama is not a true Muslim either.

We don't. This is not much different than us using blackwater for covert ops. We have the military. We pay millions of dollars per year to train them. They are the best trained men in the world. LETS ****ING USE THEM.

    It's entirely different.
Using smaller, lighter moving forces to get into towns under less obvious cover is the purpose of such tactic. Hence covert ops asopposed to overpowering overkill with a highly armed visible force.

Having a force on our own land to meet 'strategic goals', which I'm still not sure just what those goals are, is an entirely different matter, as al qeada isn't hiding amongst the 'local element' in Quick Check.

    Where can we sign up?

Do we "Do More" before breakfast, than most people do all day?

OK. Explain that to Obama, would ya? We have enough civilians in government without creating another force as well funded and trained as what we already have. Obama is running around attempting to crush what little we have in the way of an intelligence community at the same time as he is railing for a new force.

We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we've set. We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.

Despite some attempts by his apologists, those words are pretty straightforward. More power to either existing agencies or creat new ones.

When you start to examine Obama's words and look at what he considers national security issues, it becomes even worse. Maybe not allowing Hillary out and sending Slick Willy out to be the new Sec of State will help, but based on his horrible track record, I doubt it.
