IRVING -- The Cowboys will have some noticeable changes on the offensive line when the season opens against the New York Giants on September 5.

Last year's top pick, Tyron Smith, is being moving to left tackle after starting all 16 games at right tackle in 2011. Doug Free, last year's left tackle, is moving back to the right side, a position he played in 2009.

But the transformation also includes a new offensive line coach, Bill Callahan, and two new free agent guards, Mackenzy Bernadeau and Nate Livings.

The two newcomers are projected to be starters. Callahan said Saturday that Livings will begin camp at left guard and Bernadeau at right guard.

I'm confused, is Kowalski not even getting a look this year?

Maybe they want Kowalski to focus on playing guard.

Maybe. Just seems like we have a LOT of guards, especially Leary is as-advertised, and 0 centers :laugh2:

    I hope it's an oversight.

I thought he was by our best second level blocker from the interior OL.

I also thought he was our most consistent pass blocker along the interior along with Holland.

I hope he is given a shot to win the job and knock Costa off the roster.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if this year is like when Petitti failed to make the roster a year after starting as a rookie at RT.

There was no oversight. Callahan talked about the players he was asked about.

and why not talk about others?

But sadly we have heard nothing good from anyone on all too many of our guys from last year.

If I were those guys I would have asked about Costa, Killa and Arkin. Lousy job by the reporters

Prepare for disappointment, the Cowboys like what they have and are banking on improved guard play to help.

Correct. Don't read into this. There's nothing there.

Guard play can cover up C play. On the interior of the line you only need 2 of the 3 to be good and the third to be servicable. A good center helps hid a bad guard next to him just like a two good guards help hide a bad center. Of course the center has to be able perform its one duty well which is snap then be able to combo blosk with one of the guards.
