Kellen Moore will be back in Dallas for the 2017 season.

The Dallas Cowboys have turned to a familiar face in an effort to acquire backup quarterbacks for starter Dak Prescott. Today the two sides came to an agreement.

The #Cowboys re-signed QB Kellen Moore, adding depth to their QB room. They’ll still look for an addition there.

Todd Archer reports that it is a one-year deal.

Moore is a favorite of offensive coordinator Scott Linehan and as such always had an advantage in returning to Dallas. He was of course slated to be the backup for Tony Romo last year, ahead of Dak Prescott, until everything went sideways in the offseason and preseason, when both Moore and Romo were lost to injury.

Romo will be departing the Cowboys in the not too distant future, leaving Moore as the other quarterback on the roster for the time being. The Cowboys could look at adding another vet, they brought in Josh McCown for a visit earlier in the offseason and he remains unsigned. Or they could go back to the well in the draft and try to grab another later-round gem like they did in Prescott. I guess it depends on if they view Moore as THE backup, or just a backup option.
