The Thursday Night Football package will be simulcast for half the season.

For those viewers without the NFL Network among their channel options, you will finally get to watch half of the NFL Thursday Night Football schedule. The NFL sold the rights to the first eight games of the 2014 season to CBS while the NFL network will reserve the right to simulcast those broadcasts.

In total there will be 14 games on Thursday nights with two more to be played in the last part of the season on Saturday night. Apparently, if I'm reading this right, all of the games will be produced by CBS Sports which means Jim Nantz and Phil Simms will be the broadcast team on all of those games. The deal is for one year with the NFL holding an option for a second year.

This is a good move for the NFL, the NFL Network-only games were not broadcast to all NFL fans and that should never be the case for an NFL game. Also, the production of the games on Thursday nights never seemed up to par with the other networks. Sounds like now we'll get better production and at least half of it's schedule will be broadcast to everyone. It's still curious why they didn't go with all the games, I guess they're keeping half back as some kind of incentive to get more customers to sign up for the NFL Network, or maybe get ll the cable/dish companies to carry it on basic packages. Anyway, it's a step in the right direction.

How many of you don't have the NFL Network?
