hahahaha- I cannot believe this
Chargers owner Dean Spanos announced Tuesday that head coach Norv Turner and GM A.J. Smith will be retained for the 2012 season.
"Bottom line, I believe these two men give us the best chance to get back to the playoffs," Spanos said. "A.J. Smith is the best man to improve our roster, and Norv Turner is the best man to lead that roster on the field." Turner's 52-34 record is the best by percentage (.605) in franchise history. He saved his job with a strong showing down the stretch one Philip Rivers gained protection up front. His return is good news for the fantasy value of the Chargers' offensive stars.
I'm not shocked.
There's really no up and coming NFL assistants or college coaches that are hot commodities.
Other than Cowher (who is commanding $10 million according to reports), Jeff Fisher who's probably going to Miami and Jon Gruden (has lost his luster with a lot of teams as a HC), really what's out there?
Dungy isn't ready to come back, if he does ever.
There's no ammunition out there other than Cowher and Fisher.
Let's not even consider Rob Ryan at this point. Eric Mangini holds more respect and not many teams see him as qualified nor do they like that he's a rat.
I like Norv a lot and wish the Cowboys would find someone like him to come to Dallas...I don't mind Garrett being the play caller, but I don't like a run coord and pass coord from two different people. I like a fluid mindset. JMO. One can wish...
Sucks to be a SD fan today. Norv has failed over and over again as an HC.
I'm shell shocked. I thought for sure he was a goner.
Have fun not winning again next year. You have no shot with Norv.
I wonder if they asked around about some people they might like and just found nobody interested?
How long has he been on the hot seat and everybody figures he is fired at the end of the season only to pull out some wins and be kept.

SAN DIEGO (AP) — San Diego Chargers President Dean Spanos has decided to keep coach Norv Turner and general manager A.J. Smith despite the team missing the playoffs for the second straight season amid increasing fan discontent.

Whoops, I missed SDogo's post. :
He was a goner. Until there was a tie for first place in the AFC west.
I wouldn't have guessed it.
Norv appears to be a likeable enough guy .... good for him. I hope he has a better year next year.
I was very against Norv back in 2007, but I don't see why people trash him so much. He did get that team farther in the playoffs than they'd ever been before, and he has had mostly winning teams.
The Chargers aren't necessarily like the Cowboys. They may not have the stature and, more importantly, the money to hire anyone who is available, especially in a year like this with so many openings. So who is to say they'd be able to find someone better to do that job.
Yes, it was reported on WFAN by Mike Francesca that Eagles Owner Jeffery lurie called the Chargers and told them to stay away from his coach. So the Chargers apparently wanted Reid and when they didn't get him they decided to keep Norv Turner and the GM
I'll say I'm a little surprised. It's not shocking but its surprising none the less.
Rather than blow up the San Diego Chargers' tandem of coach Norv Turner and general manager A.J. Smith, team president Dean Spanos announced that both men are being retained in their current roles.
Charger fans are rioting as we speak
Not sure if serious
