    Barkevious Mingo
I held a year-end discussion with the National Football Post's Wes Bunting just after the recent draft and got some names to watch during the 2012 season. Today, Wes gives some defensive end prospects. Anthony Spencer is entering his second make-or-break year, and DeMarcus Ware is now on the bad side of 30. Victor Butler and 4th round draftee Kyle Wilbur are uncertain commodities, so outside backers who can rush will likely factor into Dallas' thinking this next draft cycle.
Cowboys Nation: Two years ago we saw a lot of good pass rushers, of all types. In 2012 it seems there was some quality at 4-3 defensive ends, the Quinton Coples types, but not so many for the 3-4. A lot of guys in the Courtney Upshaw mode who may be good players, but who were not rated in league with DeMarcus Ware or Von Miller coming out. Are we going to see more Von Miller type rushers in 2013?

Wes Bunting: Yeah. Barkevious Mingo from LSU is one. He's this 250 lb. guy with long arms. Sam Montgomery is another one. He's also from LSU. They both play with their hands on the ground, but they both have the ability to stand up and fly off the edge.

Both of these guys would be great if they are still around when the Cowboys draft.

The next time a premier pass rusher drops in the draft to us we should take him because we need to start preparing for Ware's decline. If we draft such a player in 2013 he should be ready for primetime by 2015 when Ware is entering his 11th season and should be on the tail end of his career. Ware injured his neck in practice and states he has lingering effects from his injury in 2009 against SD so his decline could even be starting this year. We need to be prepared for once. Amongst our four aging stars (Romo, Ware, Witten, Ratliff) Ratliff is clearly in decline, Witten is starting his decline while Ware and Romo have shown no decline in their level of play at all.

Nevertheless, we need to go after Ware's replacement as first priority because I'd rather find Ware's replacement than waste a lot of money on Spencer. After that I'd look for Ratliff's or Witten's replacement depending on what oppotunities arise in the draft. Lastly I'd be looking for a developmental QB for Romo who we can groom for a couple of years behind Romo in the late first through third rounds.
