It's becoming clearer that the Cowboys want a defensive end in the first two rounds. Badly.

The usual suspects, Fletcher Cox and Michael Brockers, are in 1st round play, but Cincinnati's Derek Wolfe may figure into the 2nd round plans -- if he's there. I've learned he could be in Dallas' thinking at 45 if the team went with another position in the 1st, grabbing a David DeCastro, say, or a Mark Barron.

The Cowboys might do that if a run on defensive linemen starts in the 1st, and it could. The NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora's latest notes say Fletcher Cox, the hottest defensive tackle name, could go as high as 6th to the Rams. This rumor is certainly plausible. Jeff Fisher runs a 4-3. He has two good young ends in Chris Long and Robert Quinn, both recent 1st-round picks. The team badly needs quality tackles. Think of the big game DeMarco Murray had against them. The Cards Beanie Wells also had a big day on the ground against the Rams, as did several other backs. St. Louis ranked 31st in rushing yards allowed last year.
