The Anthony Spencer project appears to be over here in Dallas so what do you guys think about Dallas possibly drafting Upshaw.

I think he would be a good addition and would give Ware some help rushing the passer and also is a good pass rusher at Alabama.

I don't think Upshaw is an amazing pass rusher and would give you many more sacks than Spencer would but I think UpShaw is the most dayone ready in the draft to play SOLB.
Meaning that I think he is a risk/reward player.
HE will be solid and low risk but not a great reward player.

Yeah he hasn't shown to be a quick twitch athlete, but he is very solid. His lower rookie contract alone would make him an upgrade over Spencer, but of course we have lost a draft pick in the process.

Since he basically plays a similar position at Bama alot, it would be an easy transition for him, so he would be a great pickup to contribute right away.

Him and Ingram will be prime prospects for us if we make the decision not to resign Spencer.

also Jarvis Jones is one to look at.
Also there are some that will slide into the 1st and be some other risers.

I would be happy with a draft that would give us a day one starting CB and OLB, then get a safety and OG.
I wish there would be a way to get
    CB Janoris Jenkins
    OLB Courtney Upshaw
    FS Markelle Martin
    OG Kevin Zeitler
    C Ben Jones
would that be a pipe dream draft, make it happen Jerry

Curry plays at Marshall vs low level of competition.
He is a DE in a 4-3 and has never been askked to stand up and play in coverage. he is a interesting player, just one of many in the draft that could transition to a 3-4 OLB. We will have to see him in the combine and drills.

I agree with this DF being that I'm from Alabama, I have seen Upshaw play alot and he would benefit playing in a 3-4 and as you say he would be pro ready as well.

I forgot all about Melvin Ingram he is a very good player for the Gamecocks, but I think Spurrier and Co have him at DE so he would have to make a transition to OLB like Ware did coming out of college.

This is from ESPN about Ingram
"Began career at LB and has been in a rotation at DE the last two seasons (2009-'10). Will be a fulltime starter at DE in 2011. Has the potential to play DE in a four-man front, as well as OLB in some 3-4 schemes (Ravens, Steelers, etc.). Has some experience rushing the QB from inside, as well. "

he has played LB before and this year he actually played both depending on certain situations. I think it would be a easy trasnition for Ingram to make.

Andre Branch is another to look at.
    This is also from ESPN.

    http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draft/player/_/id/27557

Plays the 'Bandit' LB position at Clemson. Has experience in two-point stance and dropping into coverage. Shows stiffness in hips but has quick feet for size, he gets good depth in his drops and he shows good awareness in underneath zone coverage. Appears capable of contributing as a 3-4 OLB in the NFL in some capacity."

so is it worth traking the shot on.
This is why I say you have to wait until after the combine and workouts. Its way to early to say this stuff now.

We won't know much about where Curry will be rated til workouts and combine cause of him being a small school guy.

Yeah that would probably be pretty hard to pull off in one draft without alot of trade ups.

Yeah Ingram would be interesting, it will depend on the team that drafts him really cause he could play both spots if needed, at least from projections right now. His coverage ability will have to be tested in workouts.

Thanks for this report on Ingram he's a good player whether it be DE, or OLB he's going to make some NFL team real happy for selecting him.

    per ESPN on Vinny Curry

    http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draft/player/_/id/27949

Lined up at 3-technique at times and initial quickness gave interior offensive linemen problems. Limited in space and doesn't appear to be a viable candidate to move to outside linebacker in a base 3-4 front.

    vs low competition yes
also a 3-4 OLS has to do alot more than rush the passer and get sacks.
Jason Babin leads the NFL in sacks but he could be a 3-4 SOLB.
