IRVING, Texas -- Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant failed to show up for a scheduled Tuesday hearing to settle a $600,000 debt with a jeweler/ticket broker.

Beth Ann Blackwood, the attorney for Colleyville resident Eleow Hunt, filed a motion in Tarrant County court Wednesday afternoon seeking an immediate hearing to settle the debt.

This is the kind of off the field stuff that will inhibit him from becoming the player he can be on the field.

I would be stunned if he doesn't have a lawyer handling this case. My father is a lawyer and I've never had to show up in court for traffic violations.

Just doing a little searching, and I think they did practice on Tuesday.

Even so, I'm wondering why his lawyer wouldn't have been present on his behalf.

edit: They practiced on Mon, but not on on Tuesday.

Dez was scheduled to attend a court settlement hearing in his jewelry case on Tuesday but did not show and his attorney is not returning calls.

I know if you're like me you're tired of this stuff and it really doesn't affect the team because it's a personal matter so who cares...

    Except for this.

Dez asked the court for all proceedings to be held on Tuesdays because it was his day off and all parties and the judge agreed. But now the opposing attorney will ignore that, which means Dez could miss practice and that's gonna make news.

    C'mon man.

He doesn't have the money to pay it back so he probably doesn't want a settlement at this time. Young people sometimes think things will go away if they just ignore them long enough. I'm sure this will get settled through his lawyer when he is able to pay it back.

It sounds as if the hearing was held at West's office. West is Bryant's attorney. If the hearing was at his office then I assume he was there.

Everyone who posts their opinion here without knowing exactly what the circumstances are, are really ignorant.

Stay out of his personal life.

When he starts dropping TDs or fumbling, then start talking.... Good God, this guy produces....

    Pick on Ogletree....

This. He shouldn't have to be present if his attorney knows the terms on which his client wishes to settle. It's a settlement hearing, not a court appearance.
