I thought he was a pretty lousy QB... but if he can play WR than he becomes more valuable. He would still be a project but you have to like the upside:)

I wonder how well he can catch? Did he play any WR at the Senior Bowl, etc?

I don't have the numbers but if I was to guess I would say high 4.4's or low 4.5's

PFW says: "too errratic a passer and lacks great timing and anticipation. Will make some poor decisions and tends to be streaky. Does not read the field well. Is a project at WR who needs to learn how to run routes. Has never been asked to block and struggled to beat the jam at the Hula Bowl. Can get stronger. Might be hesitant to play anywhere but QB"

(read, I am going to be joining Quincy Carter in the CFL)

If we're interested in a WR, why not draft a WR? Not some rehashed QB turned WR.

    I don't get it.

I will take a guess at this and it is only a guess but maybe its because most WR prospects this year suck

My thoughts exactly. If he isn't willing or able to make the transition to WR in the NFL then the CFL might be his next home.

Disappointing. I hope JJ isn't going back to his "project" days. Drafting projects in the top rounds in the hopes their athletic ability will translate onto the field.

If the WR is poor this year, we can wait for next year. But I think we need to address the issue soon.

I agree and I don't want to draft the guy at all but as a UFA and stick on the practice squad for a year or 2...

.....when a guy's rushing average is the same as his yards per passing attempt, usually, that's not a good thing.

But hey, doesn't that mean he has a "soft touch" on his passes? :laugh2:

You don't work out just top round guys. You work out guys that you may want to take in the later rounds. There is nothing wrong with a project in the 5th, 6th or 7th rounds.

Dallas may be looking at Smith but I highly doubt it will be as a QB. Smith is a very athletic guy but the fact is he was attracting more scouts from the CFL as a QB than from NFL scouts and most of the NFL scouts were not looking at him as a QB.

Sounds good to me. We've had TONS of success with projects in the later rounds as well.

JJ simply wants the NFL to think he's a football maverick who can pull diamonds out of dog poo.

In the end, it's all still dog poo.

It sounds strange bringing in potential UDFA's for workouts.

Let's hope he's nothing more than a UDFA. If we waste a draft pick on him, we'd simply waste it.

ok, the trend we used to have was baseball players to be our qb's. now we're on a trend to make qb's wr's.

    figures.
