I am trying to choose my words carefully, so this thread does not get deleted. But I have been saying this for years. There is a culture in Dallas that attracts the worst things at the worst times.

When you enjoy the spoils of winning (richest franchise in the WORLD, prime time schedule for holidays, sunday nights, monday nights, 4pm, a coach getting his FIRST head coaching job at ANY level...right here in Dallas....a play caller getting his first chance to call plays at ANY level...right here in Dallas...players getting PERSONAL body guards assigned to them by the TEAM....owner racing to the sidelines in a nationally televised game to tell the head coach an injured Romo is ready to re-enter the game etc...i could go on and on)....but when there are no REAL repercussions for not winning....and you are blessed with the money, attention, adulation usually reserved for brings out the worst in people. So the media, women, hangers-on, random guys at the bar/club....they all want to get "their" piece of the action. They all want a piece of the attention. They all want a seat at the party.

Dallas has been a big soap or lose...for the longest. And my fear is that coming of a 13 - 3 season...with the arrow pointing up...the culture that has never really been cleaned up...will sack this operation before it gets a chance to get off the ground. And I will not be the least bit surprised...because the leader of the pack sits right at the top of this organization....and he is the biggest benefactor of these "spoils of winning"...without actually having to win!

P.S. - wasn't it just 2 years ago that we had fringe players...not adhering to the dress code instituted by the HEAD COACH...and they were cut? That stuck with me. That made me question the culture!

There's no denying the circus environment that follows this team around. Part of it comes with the city. Part of it comes with the owner. It's a huge issue to have to coach around, for sure. And dumb stuff like today's Zeke story compound the challenge.

This culture is 100% what Jerry wants. Every time a guy screws up it's $$$$ in the bank. Jerry has built a franchise that makes money on every single situation good or bad. The guy is a money making genius. Every time a person talks poorly of the Cowboys and its culture I just picture Jerry laughing in his office at the money rolling in because of the attention it generates. Jerry loves the haters more than Cowboy fans. Its because if the haters/complainers why this franchise is a huge over top money printing machine.

It comes down to two things.

    1. The spotlight that comes with the celebrated Cowboys.

    2. A drunken owner that whores around like Hugh Hefner and invites it into the building.

Our saving grace is Dak. And while I think Dak is a wonderful talent...not sure he is READY....nor is it ask him to overcome EVERYTHING that comes with being the QB of the Dallas Cowboys. We are lucky that the RB is the one who seemingly cannot handle the spotlight. Because if Dak rolled the way Zeke rolled...the future would NOT be bright. is apparent to me...that Zeke cannot be trusted. Already, it is apparent to me...that Zeke does not get IT! Not sure what is and what is not true...but the mere fact the HEADLINES he is creating has not convinced him to lay low...tells me a lot about this guy. And I don't want to hear "he is 21 years old excuse". There are PLENTLY of 21 year olds who would not do what he has done in his position. And it tells me that he is not listening to people in his ear. I am sure he parents and advisors have told him to lay low...the fact that he ignores them should sound the alarm that this guy cannot be counted on!

The OP offers food for thought. Maybe all the glitz, glitter and adulation isn't the best influence on players to be had.

Culture has several dimensions: values, attitudes, goals and practices. In many respects the Cowboys have a strong culture. What seems to be missing (from my experience in corporate America) are two things: accountability and consistency.

    This X10000!!!!!!!!!

The fans...the fans...are the real victims. Because we are the ones who actually truly believe that it is about Wins and losses...but wake up people...that stopped being the case a LONG TIME AGO!

There can only be 1 winner out of 32 every year. Every owner knows this. So their first priority is to SECURE the money! Cannot say I blame them. But that is what it is folks. So as fans...we have to decide how we are going to let this affect our fandom!

Mainly its the culture of "lack of accountability" that follows athletes and other famous people around. Many of these guys have been "the man" in sports since they were young, and have become accustomed to people making allowances for their behavior. Now add in a whole bunch of money, freedom, free time and opportunities to get into trouble and you have a problem waiting to happen.

What makes you say that? Apart from the fact that several of these recent incidents have happened offseason. We don't really know what fines or discipline the team levies, or what consequences they hand out or how consistently.

All we really know is that it's a persistent problem, and it has been for a long time.

Is the culture drastically worse than last year?

I agree the Cowboys have a strong culture....but not in what you suggest. The only thing they have STRONLY done since increase in value. How does that happen when you are 1 of 3 NFC teams (the other are the redskins and lions)...who have not played in a conference title game since 1995?

I love, love, love the Cowboys. I am cautiously excited about the future as any fan. But the reason I am because of the very things that has happened since we went 13 - 3. Zeke is our most important player. Everyone in and outside of the lockeroom knows this. And our most important player...seems determined to think about only himself. And there are plenty of and outside the organization....that will be too happy to oblige him in making it about himself. You think women don't recognize his place in the sport? If they didn't...I am sure after he posed naked for ESPN the body got their attention. At least in the 90s we had rings to show for all the off field attention.

Yep....going 13 - 3 brings a different kind of attention. And WE are not handling it!

Let me ask you think having the NFL rushing champ and a 13 - 3 record...and being a part of the greatest OL in the NFL made Ron Leary unaffordable (whatever that means)?

I wouldn't have paid Leary what he got paid. Resources need to go to other places, like the defense.

People do not want to admit it ........ But Jerry runs this company like its WWE.

And as long as he keeps making money he will assume how he runs it is the right way.

Let's not pretend Dak is some angel sent from heaven to make this team pure. He got a DWI months before the draft and was involved in a fight in Florida on spring break. He's had his issues, too.

Cowboys and controversy is nothing new and was something Dallas has dealt with long before Jerry Jones.
