For a team that only won 5 games to put 5 players in the Pro-Bowl is amazing. We should have been 9-5 that year or even better but we just couldn't seem to get a break to go our way.

That was the year I started liking the Cowboys, mostly because of their uniforms and because of Eddie LeBaron but I fell in love with them the following pre-season when I met Bob Lilly.

Was Meredith starting these years, or was it LeBaron, at first?

LeBaron went to the Pro Bowl in 1962, so Meredith was still his backup at this point. However, from 1963 until he retired Meredith was the guy. LeBaron was his primary backup in 1963 then retired.

I think a big part of it was the defense giving up 402 points. Lebaron said in this FWST article that the Cowboys had “the best offense in the NFL.” I did a few statistical comparisons of the 1962 and 2007 offenses. I was very surprised at the result. It was one heck of an offense in 1962. Only our 3rd year.

    1962 (14 game season)

    PPG 28.4
    Passing TD 31
    Rushing TD 16
    Net Passing yards 2,883
    Passing yds/Att 8.2
    Rushing yards 2,040
    Rushing yds/Att 4.7
    Offensive yds/game 351.6

    2007
    PPG 28.4
    Passing TD 36
    Rushing TD 14
    Net Passing yards 4,105
    Passing yds/Att 8.1
    Rushing yards 1,746
    Rushing yds/Att 4.2
    Offensive yds/game 365.7

Thanks for taking the time and effort to make the "History" part of the board. I enjoy it very much.
    Excellent Job.

One thing I would like to point out. In 1962 and probably the latter part 1961, Landry used the quarterback to shuttle in the plays. So LeBaron would start and the next play Meredith would go in. They would alternate plays the whole game. In fact Meredith had more passing attempts, completions and yards than LeBaron.
