Just about all Cowboys fans know our record in the Super Bowl is 5-3. Hardcore fans might even know that our all time Post Season record is 32-23. I thought you might like to know the breakdown of how we have done in each round of the Post Season. This will also give you an idea of how long it has been between advancements to each round.

The names of the post season games have changed a few times and the number of games to reach the ultimate game have too. Did you know that the Packers actually won a Super Bowl before Super Bowl I? It's true. In 1965 the game that today would be considered the Conference Championship was actually called Super Bowl and the Packers won it. They went on to win the League Championship a week later. After the 1966 season the Championship officially became the Super Bowl.

From 1960 through 1964 there was only one game to determine The Champion. Two teams squared off and the winner was NFL or League Champion.

In 1965 the tournament to crown a Champion became 2 levels or games and it remained 2 games for 1966.

In 1967 they added a 3rd round that today would be equivalent to the Divisional Round of the Playoffs.

In 1978 they created the Wildcard Round and added the idea of the best teams in each Conference getting a bye for that week. Five teams from each Conference made the playoffs.

It became 6 teams reaching the Playoffs with 2 teams earning a bye for the first round in 1990. This format has been followed ever since. The Cowboys have earned 8 byes counting 2007.

So, here is how the Cowboys have fared in each round. The notes in parentheses after some games are to denote when the game had a different name.

Just think.....we've lost three Super Bowls, two by 4 points and one by 3 points.....:bang2:......This year is Super Bowl XLII (42) and will be our 9th, that's an average on one every 4.66 years .. .. BUT if we would've won all the Conference Championships we've been in (we've lost 6) this would've be the 15th Super Bowl for an average of one every 2.8 years .. .. no wonder so many people hate my COWBOYS!!

48 seasons in the NFL. Counting this year 29 seasons where we have qualified for the post season.

....and, knock on wood, it looks as if we'll be spending time in the playoffs for the foreseeable future...

It's crazy that the Skins and Cowboys have only played each other twice in the playoffs. The last time I was one year old, so I wouldn't mind seeing it this year.

Makes sense though. It is not often that two teams from the same division make it to the playoffs- at least not the same division that often. so for the skins and us to have played each other is not going to happen that much no matter what. Only since the multiple wild cards has it happened anyway. So reality is that it will not happen that much.

This year will be the 10th time both teams are in the Post Season at the same time.

Except for that loss to the Browns in 69 and to the Lions in 91, the Boys have never been blown out of a playoff game. Now that is a record!

I know I have heard stories about our 1st SB where we recovered a fumble and it was taken from us while in the pile of players. That gave the game to the Colts. Right ? anything to add?

Too bad we didnt beat the Redskins in the playoffs during the Miami perfect season. I think we probably win that game and ruin it for them. Did we have the team to beat them?

I knew we had the edge against the 49ers historically. You would never know it though listening to some people. 1994 bothers me more than "the catch"

    What is "They're Brass"?

Billy Ray Smith was yelling "Colts Ball" and the idiot refs took his word. A cowboy came up with the ball and gave it to the refs but it made no difference.

Jimmy Johnson guaranteed we would beat the 49ers. Told the media to put in 3 inch high letters. George Seiffert, the 49ers HC responded by saying, "Jimmy's got balls. I'll give him that. We're going to find out if they are brass or paper mache'."

After the game Jimmy stepped up to the mike and simply said, "they're brass."

I thought a Cowboys was stripped of the ball by a Colt.

LOL... Wow... I now vaguely remember something like that...

It's really weird that we've never played the Giants in a playoff game.
