Last year, it seemed like whoever the Cowboys brought in during the regular season, it was smart move.

Now, the guys in the Pro Scouting Department – Judd Garrett and Will McClay are at it again. Trading for Ryan Cook[IMG] seemed like a nice cushion to the interior line. That’s before Phil Costa[IMG] played just three snaps against the Giants and now will be out a while.

Cook is THE guy at center and the Cowboys seemingly made a nice call with him, especially since he’s been mostly a guard and tackle during his seven years in the league. But they saw enough of him at center, and obviously trusted former Cowboys scouting director Jeff Ireland, who is the GM in Miami and traded him to Dallas for the seventh-round pick.

    Pro Scouting Department?

I thought Jerrah was "the man" who was out doing all the scouting at the pro and college level and he made all the decisions– without anyone else's input. :D

I heard that none of the offensive linemen under Bill Callahan could be any good because Bruce Coslet didn't develop any offensive linemen.

Which makes about as much sense as saying Jimmy Johnson couldn't find offensive linemen because Tom Landry and Gil Brandt whiffed on Jeff Zimmerman.

They should definitely be applauded for the moves made last year. And the Cook trade as well.

That said, Frank Walker? Really? That one was a push at best.

And personally, I'd like to see another 'shrewd move' made for another center candidate really soon.

I know what you're saying, but the Walker move was meant to shore up the 5th CB spot and didn't cost a draft pick.

Nice try dude. Jerry's "the man" who hasn't actually drafted or signed a true center in years. In fact he cut the guy he signed in 2002 and replaced him with street and undrafted FA's. That's unquestionably his blueprint.

Cook's the band-aid to try and fix that blueprint when it clearly failed in execution.

I applaud the pro-scouting staff's efforts in locating him, I'm very pissed at the person who directed this team to not draft or sign a real center which made the trade necessary to begin with.

So believe me, this line is truly "Jerry-rigged".

What makes you think they ignored center completely? You know absolutely they did that or did they address problems that they thought were more important? Did they have a center in their sights but had to give him up to get Claiborne? There are plenty of scenarios that give the results we got other than we totally gave up center.
